£149.40In Charge - Concert March - Jerker Johansson
In Charge was commissioned by the Home Guard Band of Eksj to honour Thomas Samuelsson, whose efforts with the orchestra have been of great significance. He was a driving person within Swedish military music and furthermore project manager for Eksj International Tattoo. Thomas worked at Eksj Energy and the title of this work hints both to his occupation and his administrative leadership in the band. The first part of this concert march concentrates a lot on syncopation, while the second part is more robust with a traditional and lyrical trio part. In Charge was premiered by the Home Guard Band of Eksj on the 22th of December 2018, conducted by Maria Sandberg.

Schwarz is an 11-minute work for Concert Band based on the life and work of Leonardo da Vinci.Born in Italy in 1452, da Vinci was a polymath of the Renaissance period whose interests included astronomy, philosophy, science and mathematics as well as the visual arts. He is considered one of the greatest painters of all time - who does not know of his famous 'Mona Lisa' or 'The Last Supper'?Inspired by da Vinci's notebooks, or codices, this composition takes the listener on a journey through the artist's incredible career. Through his music, Schwarz brings da Vinci back to life. The listener will beable to sense the passion, and the urge for innovation that set da Vinci apart as one of the most remarkable thinkers of the 16th century.This set includes a score and parts.

£164.99Zodiac Dances - Philip Sparke
Zodiac Dances was commissioned by the Izumiotsu City Band, Osaka, Japan to celebrate their 50th anniversary. Sparke had previously written the piece, Prelude to a Celebration for the band, and in composing a new piece for their 50th anniversary wanted to personalise it to reflect the band's history. He chose to write a set of six dance-miniatures based on the decades following the band's foundation and the equivalent signs from the Japanese 'Junishi'. During the piece, all aspects of true musicianship come to the surface. Energetic playing, phrasing, melodic music making, technique and a spectacular finale make this work a perfect test or concertwork!

£82.80Solemnity - Alexandre Carlin
Solemnity was composed when the composer came back from his first Midwest Clinic in Chicago. Inspired by all the concert bands performing there, and all the fellow composers met at this occasion, he decided to write a kind of fanfare work, leading to a fast theme on a driving rhythm.The piece begins like a fanfare with a solemn character which gives the title of the work, the brass here have a nice part to play. Then, a new theme full of energy, using the same rhythmic motive as the fanfare theme, is exposed by the high woodwinds and finally by more instruments. The central part is a slow one, where a melancolic theme is exposed by the oboe, and finally the rest of the band. After a fugato section, the energic theme is back to lead to a brilliant coda.

This arrangement is written to commemorate Robert Kvam, a trumpeter, conductor and instrument repair technician.He died of cancer in 2019, only 54 years old.The quiet, beautiful hymn There is power in the folded hands (Trygve Bjerkrheim / ivind Tnnesen) was his favorite song, and the tune and lyrics are the fundament of this arrangement. Especially the line in themselves, the hands are small and weak is an important motif to the arrangement.

Who can forget the legend of the ominous headless horseman as told in The Legend of Sleepy Hollow? The superstitious schoolmaster, Ichabod Crane, embarks on a harrowing journey as he is chased through the night by this fearsome spectre. This depiction begins with a slow, walking tempo as the ride begins, gradually picking up speed as the horsemans presence is known. The horse first trots, then canters and eventually gallops in a mad dash to get away as ghostly laughter pierces the air, getting ever closer to the terrified schoolmaster.

As the title implies, here is a piece from popular composer Sean O'Loughlin that harkens back to ancient times. The minor mode gives the piece a seriousness that students will love. Relics of the Past was inspired by the composer's trip to Yosemite National Park with his family, where he was awed by the majestic, expansive views of the park. From Half Dome to Yosemite Falls to the giant Sequoia trees and more, Yosemite National Park embodies ancient beauty and conflict, reflected here in Relics of the Past.
