Under An Irish Sky
A unique Larry Neeck creation which combines two old Irish folk tunes to create a quality composition that is a superior choice for concert or contest performances by mid-level bands. Starting with "Slane", an expressive 3/4 melody , the piece then seques into "Brian Boru's March" an old march with a slight "Irish jig" feel. Neeck's many years as a Middle School Band Director has given him the knowledge and experience to write in a manner that gets the most out of middle school and jr. high performers without exceeding their capabilities. An Irish Legend contains original melodies in an Irish style, written to evoke the sounds of the emerald isle of Ireland. The piece is in traditional ABA form, beginning with a lilting Irish jig, then a more lyrical and slow second theme. After returning to the jig, it ends with a climactic section where both themes are played together. It sounds much more difficult than it plays. The piece is exciting and will be well within the capabilities of students at this grade level.

Fanfare for an Occasion was written to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the founding of Anglo Music Press, the publishing company dedicated to the works of British composer, Philip Sparke. It is a bright and festive work in which the main theme starts on the tenor instruments of the band before appearing as canonical imitation by all sections in turn. A short, repeated bridge passage leads to a second theme on the saxes that is taken up by the full band and leads back to a return of the main theme and a repeat of the second subject, which brings the fanfare to a brilliant close.
