A rapid flourish in 12/8 time opens composer Otto M. Schwarz' first Concerto for trumpet Trumpet Town, written in October 2009. The metric changes that follow affect the pulse rhythmically and melodically, in exciting and unexpected ways. The solo trumpet's displays of technical prowess and bravura alternate with the film-score-like tutti sections of the brass ensemble. The slow, almost elegiac, central section can be performed on the flugelhorn, while the closing reprise demands that both the soloist and the orchestra give of their best as the piece comes to an exciting, colourful, and uplifting finale. Trumpet Fiesta spotlights four trumpet soloists. From the opening bars the music expresses a feeling of happiness. This swift and lively piece begins with a series of dynamic staccato passages from the soloists. The central section, in the minor key, contrasts with the beginning of the work and during this transition period there are only two solo trumpet parts. The first theme then quickly reappears before moving on to a peaceful and more melodic trio in which long and flowing melody lines allow the soloists to let the beautiful sound of the trumpet fully reveal itself. The sound pyramid then formed by the whole band leads this spectacular piece to a powerful finale.

Echoes of the Morning Trumpet is based on a hymn tune entitled Morning Trumpet by B.F. White that was first published in The Sacred Harp Hymn Book of 1844, a book that was originally printed in shaped notes. The Sacred Harp style of singing is characterized by stark chords with plenty of open fifths and equal participation by all performers who sit and stand in blocks, by section, facing the leader in the middle. This piece features a trumpet solo in the opening, accompanied by the singing of the members of the ensemble. Various treatments of the hymn that highlight the ensemble colors follow before the magnificent close.

Charanga For Trumpet - Boudewijn Cox
Boudewijn Cox is chiefly known as a Flemish composer in the modern classical music scene, but he has his roots in jazz.Charanga was a composition assignment from the "De Hoop" Ossendrecht music association and was created by Frank van der Poel in November 1999. Frank van der Poel, to whom this work is dedicated, is a well-known trumpet player and a renowned soloist who specialises in light music. He is also very esteemed as a big band lead trumpet.

Commissioned by Japan's Central Air Self Defense Force BandWhen I received this commission, I thought of a regular piece for wind band, but as my preparations continued I heard so much about the band's outstanding trumpeter Kenichi Kurisu that I ended up writing a concerto for him. The Self Defense Force audience includes those without much chance to otherwise hear live music. With that in mind I realized I also had the challenge of creating a melody that was compelling.Using the classical sonata as a model I made this song with simple movements and included a signature chorus in the middle section. Although this piece is performed with band, a version for piano accompaniment was created by pianist Orimo Manabu for the 20th Anniversary of "The Trumpet Concert."This edition of Trumpet Concerto was offered for an American Premier at the 2013 Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic, Robert Sullivan soloist with the Kagoshima Joho High School Wind Orchestra.(Satoshi Yagisawa)
