Gather Ye Rosebuds - Todd Stalter

takes its title from a line in a poem by Robert Herrick. The poem exhorts us to take advantage of the time we have been given, for all too soon it will be gone. The work opens with a bold statement in the winds, giving way to a plaintive melody in the flute. The music builds to a glorious climax using the power of the full sonority of the winds, and ends softly, in a reflective mood.

"Gaudete" dates back to the 16th century, and was sung as a Christmas Carol throughout the monasteries of Europe. Meaning "rejoice" in Latin, this piece captures the intense passion of praise coupled with moments of calm reverence. (3:25)

What's a band concert without a good, rousing march' The parts to this 1925 march were lost and only the original piano reduction remained. David Westfall scored from this reduction to give bands everywhere the opportunity to play this tuneful work with obvious circus origins.

Stephen Foster's beautiful melody makes a perfect vehicle to feature the lyrical side of a student or guest euphonium or trombone soloist, or as an encore.

Gentle Clouds Roll By - Donald Coakley

This lovely Chippewa lullaby was first collected on the western shores of the Great Lakes at the beginning of the twentieth century. The original "Way Way" text was obviously intended to gently lull a baby to sleep. Performing this work presents two opportunities. First, it presents the opportunity to perform with the school choir (or members of the band to sing the choral parts). Second, it also presents the option to work with the history department in the school when they are teaching about native peoples. Cross curriculum work is always popular and is of great benefit to students.

Gentle Snow - Dan Austin

piece was written to be a reflection of the beauty of freshly fallen snow on the ground, on limbs of a tree, sparkling in the winter sun and undisturbed by human footprints. It is truly a stunning thing to experience. This simple lyrical piece by Dan Austin serves as a great introduction to smooth legato playing for beginning musicians. (2:15)

Gentle Winds - Timothy Loest
