While it can be fairly easy to select a musical piece for the beginning of a concert, the search for a proper closing piece can sometimes be more difficult. Helping to fill this gap was Stefan Schwalgin's motivation for this Farewell Medley. In this piece he has woven four world-famous folk tunes from the Anglo/Irish/Scottish culture (Danny Boy, Amazing Grace, The Last Post and Auld Lang Syne) into a high-quality arrangement that allows the band to display its full range of colours at the end of any concert.

£104.99Dream Cruise - Satoshi Yagisawa
Satoshi Yagisawa has lived in Ichikawa City, Chiba Prefecture in Japan since he was in elementary school. Around Christmas time every year in Ichikawa City, seven Chiba high school bands hold a joint concert. For the 20th anniversary the composer was asked to write a piece to be performed to close the concert. This piece was first performed in 2010 by Tadashi Yoshida, conductor and close friend of Satoshi Yagisawa, with a combined wind orchestra from Chiba Prefectural Kokubun High School, Chiba Prefectural Ichikawa Nishi High School, Chiba Prefectural Matsudo Mutsumi High School, Chiba Prefectural Matsudo Akiyama High School, Chiba Prefectural Matsudo Yakiri High School,Chiba Prefectural Funabashi Nishi High School and Chiba Prefectural Shiroi High School. The title was chosen from suggestions submitted by participating students. Dream Cruise was chosen by Satomi Otsu, a junior in Chiba Prefectural Matsudo Mutsumi High School Wind Orchestra. The composer skillfully scored this piece and created the chorus part so that all the hundreds of students could participate in the performance. This version has been revised so it can be played without the chorus part.

This work was commissioned by the concert band Da Capo Leeuwarden from the Netherlands, which was linked with the Dutch postal service PTT up until 1995. Mercury happens to be the messenger of the gods - a kind of mailman, one could say. Yet the composer did not choose the god but the planet Mercury as his source of inspiration for this work in four uninterrupted movements. He created a multifaceted work in which the mysterious celestial body is represented, as well as a number of space missions exploring it. This interesting subject matter guarantees a composition that fascinates from start to finish.

To mark its centenary, the "Musikgesellschaft Hinterkappelen-Wohlen" decided to commission a light-hearted work comprising different styles brought together in one setting. Farewell Song has been taken from Der Trompetervon Sckingen by Victor E. Nessler (1841-1890). Thisopera tells the sentimental story of a plain musicianwho is eventually allowed to marry the daughter ofa baron. From the first performance in 1884, thisopera was well liked - not so much because of thestory but because of its musical features. Impressivetrumpet solos, drinking songs and dance scenes werethe ingredients that enthralled audiences throughoutEurope. Today, only the farewell song called JungWerner's Abschied, also known as Beht' dich Gott,has remained an absolute winner. Wil van der Beekhas written a fine arrangement of this entitledFarewell Song. He felt itwas appropriate to entrustthe melody of this song, originally written for tenorvoice, to the baritone or euphonium.
