Danny the Brave Heart (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - O'Reilly, John
This arrangement of two Irish folk songs is dedicated to the memory of Danny Pearl, the Wall Street journalist who was kidnapped and subsequently murdered by Islamic Militants in February 2002. The choice of Danny Boy is an obvious one. The arranger, John O'Reilly, always thinks of Danny when he hears this tune since Mr. O'Reilly's daughter was very close to Danny during their high school years. Danny was a violinist and he loved to play fiddle music. The Wearin' of the Green is in the style Danny enjoyed and the lyrics of the song relate to the struggle of the Irish people as they defied the British oppression.Duration: 2.30

Toccata (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Monteverdi, Claudio - De Haan, Jacob
Claudio Monteverdi composed this toccata as an instrumental introduction for the opera L'Orfeo (1607). According to the composer, this introduction should be played three times before the rising of the curtain. This is actually the first overture in the history of opera.)The story of Orfeo, who enchanted nature with his music, is tragic, as he loses his beloved Eurydice and decides to retrieve her from the underworld. On their return journey, one glance back at her is fatal: he loses her for the second time.)This arrangement for wind band is very suitable as a concert opener. The toccata is played three times just like the original. The first time it is played by a quintet consisting of two trumpets and three trombones.)Various ways of performing this toccata are possible. The tension builds up more intensely if the quintet starts off stage. Eventually, these five players join the band, after which the tutti version follows two times. You can also have the brass play from the gallery during the second or third time for a double choir effect.Duration: 2:00

Joyeuse Marche (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Brand, Geoffrey
In spite of displaying remarkable musical gifts Chabrier (1841-1894) was sent by his father to study law and in due course, having taken a law degree, went to work in his native French Ministry of the Interior, stay there for eighteen years. During the whole of this time he was developing his real interests in music and painting, including composing operettas and music for the piano. Following a holiday in Spain in 1883, Chabrier wrote a rhapsody for orchestra based on Spanish tunes he had heard. This became Espana; it achieved immediate acclaim and is still his most performed work. Joyeuse Marche (originally called Marche Francaise) was written in 1888. It exudes Chabrier's rhythmical exuberance, spontaneity and wit, bringing pleasure and joy to performers and listeners alike. Truly a march which lives up to its title.

The Lord Bless You and Keep You (Brass Band Score) Rutter arr. Andrew Wainwright
John Rutter's popular choral benediction is based on Numbers 6:24-26, and has here been arranged for brass band by Andrew Wainwright. It is a setting of a biblical benediction, followed by an extended 'Amen'. Rutter originally scored the piece for four vocal parts (SATB) and organ. He composed it in 1981 for the memorial service of Edward T. Chapman, the director of music at Highgate School, London, with whom he had studied when he attended the school. The arrangement sounds a semi-tone down from the original choral setting although otherwise maintains the same format, so can be performed with choir if they sing down a semi-tone. Military Escort March - Harold Bennett
The most popular of Harold Bennett's (a.k.a Henry Fillmore) marches, Military Escort is one that even Sousa wished he had written. From the opening trumpet fanfare to the tuneful trio, this classic is one of the best! Larry Clark has arranged this, as he has many other Harold Bennett marches, to be better suited for today's bands. This is a proven winner in an arrangement that you know will work.

Breeze in the Forest - Satoshi Yagisawa
Breeze in the Forest was commissioned for the concert to celebrate the 60th birthday of Professor Haruyuki Nakatsukasa of Osaka Kyoiku University. "Kanreki" is a special term used to celebrate reaching the age of 60 in Japan. The composer was inspired by some of Professor Nakatsukasa's admirable characteristics upon composing this work: he speaks softly and at the same level as his students; he is fashionable, stylish and refined. The band accompaniment is at a moderate level of difficulty, allowing the solo flautist to choose this work for many an occasion.

Mozart's Sandbox - J. Scott McKenzie
What kind of music would Mozart write if he were alive today and had been exposed to jazz, rock 'n' roll, and polytonality? This piece supposes that he would start with what he knew and then figure it out on the fly! Mozart's Sandbox is a piece rich with depth and humor, but thoughtfully scored for young bands.
