    Antipasto - Satoshi Yagisawa

This piece was composed in 2022 as a commission work for the 50th regular concert of the Takamatsu First Senior High School Symphonic Wind Ensemble in Kagawa Prefecture, Japan, and was performed for the first time in the world by the same group under the direction of Koji Ishikawa. The high school in question is a prestigious school that has produced many excellent musicians. When Satoshi Yagisawa was asked to compose a piece that could be played at the opening of every concert, he named it Antipasto, which means 'appetizer' in Italian cuisine. This humorous work, which likens a concert to a restaurant course meal, condenses the composer's typically flamboyant and dramatic music into a digestible whole of about three and a half minutes.

    Phantom Regiment - Leroy Anderson

This work was written by Leroy Anderson in 1951 and premiered by him when he recorded it for Decca. Interestingly, in 1956 the Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps of Rockford, Illinois changed their original name from the Rockford Rangers after having heard the piece played by a different corps. The music emulates the sound of distant trumpets and soldiers marching, drawing closer to the listener bit by bit. As the music gains strength, the marching and trumpets get louder and after passing the audience, it slowly fades away as they disappear into the distance again. This exclusive Southern band edition by Mark Rogers reintroduces Anderson's enchanting work to new generations of audiences.

West Highlands Sojourn - David Sheldon

Inspired by this popular composer's journey through the western hill country of England and Wales, this delightful piece borrows from folk melodies he heard on a river near the Scottish border. The three contrasting sections of the piece make it equally suitable for concert or contest use. This Build-A-Band version makes this wonderful composition playable by very small bands and it will sound great as long has you have the four essential parts covered. Forever Climbing - Larry Clark

Forever Climbing was written as tribute to the loss of a high school band student that was tragically killed in a rock climbing accident. It is not intended as a sad piece, but as a celebration of the life of this exceptional young man. At times the piece is contemplative, but also contains a joy that is to depict the way he lived. As the piece builds to its conclusion, the listener will have a sense of fulfillment in a life well lived, even though it was cut short. A moving new addition to the band repertoire.
