Imani, which means faith, is the seventh day of Kwanzaa, the African and African-American celebration of family and culture. This challenging and colorful piece rises from its quiet chant-like opening (involving part of the band singing the "Imani" tune) to a sonorous major climax at measure 51. The faster section that follows makes brilliant use of an enlarged percussion section that includes a number of assorted instruments (Log drums, Congas, Claves, et. al.) The protagonist, Daniel Sempere, is the teenage son of an antiquarian book dealer, who one day takes him to the Cemetery of Forgotten Books, a mysterious place with labyrinthine corridors where rare and banned books are stacked in massive dusty piles. His father tells Daniel to select a book, but it will be his responsibility to protect it. Daniel picks La Sombra del Viento (The Shadow of the Wind), a novel by a forgotten author Julin Carax. Daniel immediately starts reading the book, and the story unwinds itself into a compelling and complicated plot. As he reads, Daniel finds himself and his own life merging into the story's plot. It transpires that there is a mysterious man named Lan Coubert ('the man without a face') who is determined to destroy all copies of Carax's books. Daniel is threatened by Coubert and is determined to find out what happened to Carax, who fled to Paris and subsequently disappeared. Daniel finds that his own life has much in common with the author's. The book mixes magic realism, page-turning mystery, and Daniel's own real life. Daniel's once ordinary teenage existence is now filled with larger-than-life colorful and at times, terrifying characters. Among them are Fermn Romero de Torres, a beggar who Daniel and his father befriend and employ in the family bookstore; the evil police inspector Javier Fumero, who could be compared to Scarpia in Puccini's opera Tosca or Javert in Les Misrables. The corrupt Fumero uses the war as an excuse to practice his sadism and is widely feared in Barcelona. He is represented in the music by a fascist military march. The city of Barcelona becomes a character in the book and in the music. The Ramblas, the boulevard running through Barcelona's Gothic Quarter and the famous caf Els Quatre Gats (the four cats) come alive in the score through a Cobla, the traditional wind ensemble playing a sardana, typical Catalan folk music. Two parallel love stories turn up the heat: Julin Carax's passionate, forbidden love for Penlope, and Daniel's equally passionate and forbidden love for Beatriz (Bea). Lamento was composed in memory of Bjarne Haug Thesen (1957-2023). Bjarne came from Nord-Odal and had his musical base in Mo Skolemusikk and Nord-Odal Hornmusikk. In 1987, he was elected vice-president of the Norwegian Band Ferderation (Norges Musikkorps Forbund - NMF), a position he held until 1990. He was an important contributor to the development of the organization and is remembered for his knowledge, bold thoughts and winning spirit. Bjarne had this gift of delivering stories that fit to the issues that were up for debate, and if things started to get a little heated, these inputs from Bjarne often ensured that the debate got back on track. He was on the editorial board for the book "Norske musikkorps" which was published in 1990, and was also involved in the 100th anniversary of the NMF in 2018. Lamento was premiered on the 13th of December 2023 by Oslo Postorkester conducted by Stina Widn.

£139.00Me and Mrs. Jones - Kenneth Gamble
Me and Mrs. Jones was written by Kenny Gamble, Leon Huff and Cary Gilbert in 1972, and was first recorded by Billy Paul on the album 360 Degrees of Billy Paul. The song is about a man who has an affair with Mrs. Jones, and how the two secretly meet every day in the same cafe, even though they may know it's not quite right: "We got a thing going on/we both know that it's wrong/but it's much too strong/to let it go now." Paul has stated that he was sure the song was going to be a hit even before it was released, as "it's a song everyone can relate to", but already from the start the lyrics were considered somewhat controversial and the song were banned from several radio stations. Nevertheless, it became one of the best-selling singles of 1972 and Paul received a Grammy for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance.Well known is also Michael Bubl's version of the song, released on the album Call Me Irresponsible in 2007. It is his version that has been the inspiration for this arrangement, which brings out even more of the jazz elements Bubl has found in the song. The arrangement is quite demanding for the ensemble, and requires great rhythmic precision in particular.

One of Grainger's most popular piano encores was improvisations on English Morris Dance tunes that he programmed as COUNTRY GARDENS.Adolf Schmid's 1925 orchestration displays many features that bear witness to his deep knowledge of Percy Grainger's orchestral palette, making it ideal for symphonic wind band adaptation. Grainger's mature concept of the wind band is seen in CHILDREN'S MARCH, LINCOLNSHIRE POSY, and LADS OF WAMPHRAY. Gauthier Dupertuis was inspired to write the main theme of Waterfall by a stroll near a waterfall that is the pride of his hometown. This piece, composed during lockdown due to Covid-19, is also a reflection on homesickness. Waterfall also expresses the composer's feelings about enjoying a welcome break and return to his roots, which enabled him to spend more time with his loved ones. For him, this waterfall is a symbol: it's not the same water that flows there, but the waterfall is still there, the same as it was when he was a child, like a witness to times gone by. Waterfall is a work with a certain sentimental value for the composer in that it was his very first real composition.The work was premiered on 9th October 2020 by the Wind Band Societat Musical 'La Constncia' of Moixent (Spain) and was conducted by Jos Alberto Pina.

It sets the tempo, and musicians practice their themes together or against each other, register by register.In music, however, it's not just about technique and precision, but also about emotions. Music connects people, fosters friendships, and accompanies them through the highs and lows of life. The sense of togetherness in music becomes increasingly audible. Everyone works together and pulls in the same direction to ultimately achieve something great.Georges Sadeler, born in 1988 is a Luxembourgish composer and saxophonist with the Grand Ducal Military Band of Luxembourg. His father kindled his interest in composing and arranging at an early age, a study he later continued under his two teachers Marco Ptz and Claude Lenners, both of whom taught at the Conservatoire of Music, Luxembourg. He gradually began to establish his own style, combining the enormous range of possibilities of contemporary music and classical music and, in the years that followed, he won six first prizes at various national and international composition competitions. His works have since been performed all over Europe.

After the great success of the Greek Folk Song Suite that has lasted for over twenty years, Franco Cesarini once again ventures into the long and rich tradition of Greek folk music. In his Greek Folk Song Suite No. 2, the three movements that form the piece are named after the three dances reworked by the composer.The first movement, Samiotissa is a kalamatianos, whose most distinctive feature is the irregular 7/8-time signature. It is a festive dance, today considered the Greek national dance, which has roots dating back to antiquity.The second movement, Kato sto jalo is a zeibekiko, a slow-paced dance performed by only one man at a time which was apparently originated among the warriors of Ancient Anatolia.The third and last movement, Chasaposerviko, is the fast part of the hasapiko dance and is characterized by its more extensive form.A new journey into the Greek folk tradition that will delight both performers and audience.
