Storm Chaser - Green
The summer season in the southern United States rumbles with quick, intense storms most afternoons. Flashes of lightning, clapping thunder, and drenching rainfall are characteristics of the massive, anvil-shaped thunderhead clouds that roll in during the heat of the day. Scored for flexible instrumentation, "Storm Chaser" is inspired by the intensity of these storms and the adrenaline that flows through the veins of those that experience the wrath of Mother Nature. Your students will love the musical and visual imagery of this dramatic new work by Christopher Kyle Green!

Nurture - Edward Fairlie
"There are some people for whom the act of nurturing is innate. The work they do is often unheralded, acknowledgement of their effort the last thing on their mind. But nurturers carry pain, too. Their own burdens, anxieties and hardships often take a back seat to that nurturing impulse. This piece is a meditation on that idea; that some people, not without their own deep personal obstacles, can't help but live out the powerful instinct to hold those around them in a warm embrace of care." - Edward Fairlie -

Kuda, kuda v udalilis - Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky
The aria 'Kuda, kuda v udalilis' is sung by Lensky, fianc of Olga and friend of Onegin in the second act of Tschaikowsky's opera Eugene Onegin: Lensky challenged Onegin to a duel in response to Onegin's advances on Olga. Now, on the morning of the duel, Lensky looks back on his happy youth as he waits for Onegin to arrive. He realizes that he will probably die in the duel and that he does not particularly care if he does. The only great loss in his death would be that he would never see Olga again.

Opening Music - Ben Haemhouts
Opening music is one of the first works for wind orchestra by Ben Haemhouts and was originally written under assignment from the Fanfare St. Pieters Kapelle Belgium. The slow mysterious introduction introduces the main theme that consists of the notes F, C, B-flat, F, a combination that was woven throughout the entire work. Then a stirring allegro part follows, with a melodious passage in the euphoniums. The end is a long-drawn-out resuming of the beginning that builds up to a large climax, still built on the same basic tones. This overture is a solemn openings work for every occasion.

Commissioned by Japan's Central Air Self Defense Force BandWhen I received this commission, I thought of a regular piece for wind band, but as my preparations continued I heard so much about the band's outstanding trumpeter Kenichi Kurisu that I ended up writing a concerto for him. The Self Defense Force audience includes those without much chance to otherwise hear live music. With that in mind I realized I also had the challenge of creating a melody that was compelling.Using the classical sonata as a model I made this song with simple movements and included a signature chorus in the middle section. Although this piece is performed with band, a version for piano accompaniment was created by pianist Orimo Manabu for the 20th Anniversary of "The Trumpet Concert."This edition of Trumpet Concerto was offered for an American Premier at the 2013 Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic, Robert Sullivan soloist with the Kagoshima Joho High School Wind Orchestra.(Satoshi Yagisawa)

Flight - Gregory B. Rudgers
This is a lovely, introspective piece dedicated to the loss of a dear person. Unlike many pieces that have come out of sorrow, this piece is uplifting. At first, you will hear lush, lyrical lines that recall the memories of the one lost, but then the piece soars with a lilting 3/4 time feel that brings this heartfelt selection to a dramatic conclusion.

Cradle of Liberty
Al Hayes was one of seven pseudonyms used by famous march composer Henry Fillmore. Fillmore became so popular and was so prolific in the early part of the 20th century that he had to resort to pennames as to not compete with himself. This is yet another tuneful, well-written march by Fillmore that has been given new life in this setting by arranger Laurie Lafferty. This is the perfect march for use as a festival warm-up that is of a moderate difficulty.

Captive - Ed Kiefer
Captive is a sophisticated new piece that employs some modern compositional techniques to emulate the sound of electronic instruments with acoustic instruments. You would swear there is a synthesizer being played. The piece is based on the popular carol O Come, O Come Emmanuel, but it is not a holiday piece. This is a totally new composition for contest and festival performance that is different and refreshing and builds to an effective climax that impresses audiences.

Anthracite Blaze - Joseph Compello
Inspired by George Inness' 1855 painting The Lackawanna Valley, Anthracite Blaze depicts the tragic early 20th century mine fires that destroyed many boomtowns in that area of Pennsylvania. This piece is bold and sets the mood with a seriousness that will hold the attention of your students and audiences. This piece sounds far more sophisticated than it is technically to play.
