Alleluja from Exultate, Jubilate is perhaps the best-loved of all Mozart's motet melodies. £89.99Bolero For Band - Maurice Ravel
Initially commissioned by Ida Rubenstein as a ballet work initially, Maurice Ravel's BOLERO has become his most popular and often-performed orchestra composition, which was a surprise to the composer who described it as seventeen minutes of orchestra without any music. With a structure that is simplicity itself, BOLERO uses two alternating melodies in what Ravel described as a crescendo on commonplace melod[ies]. Mark Rogers' transcription of BOLERO is an entirely complete wind band version of the piece; omitting not a single note or exotic instrument, thereby transferring the brilliance of Ravel_x001A_s orchestral score to the symphonic wind band with as much fidelity to the original as possible. Ravel calls for a very large orchestra (triple woodwinds, saxophones, large brass section, harp, celesta and percussion). Consequently, this transcription of BOLERO contains a large amount of divisi writing. It goes without saying that this transcription will be most successfully performed by large symphonic wind band.

£147.10Atmospheres - John Golland
Atmospheres was composed for the Uster Musiktage and first performed in Uster (Switzerland) on october 1st 1989.The idea for the music comes from the thought that whilst a room remains the same, somehow the 'atmosphere' within that room changes according to the ambiance created by actions and emotions of the people in it. For example, an argument can cause an uncomfortable, uneasy atmosphere whereas laughter can cause a light, happy atmosphere in the same place. The place itself remains the same, but the atmosphere changes. So, in this piece there is an 'atmosphere' chord, which hardly changes throughout the piece, except that it is transposed at times. However, what goes on around that chord causes it to apparantly change according to the prevailing emotion. There are 3 sections which are quite seperate, but the music is played without a break. These 3 sections are really self explanatory: 1 - Mystery, 2 - Evil and 3 - Calm.

Die Lustigen Dorfschmiede - Julius Fucik
Reading the title of this piece, namely "The Happy Village Smiths" it rather suggests a character piece than a zestful march. However, the saying "Don't let yourself be fooled" also applies in this instance, as "The Happy Village Smiths" belong to Fuc k's most popular marches. In an article that appeared in a Styrian local paper in the 1930s, Christine Fuc k speaks about common vacations with her husband in Gleisdorf. On the occasion of a walk in the vicinity of that city the couple came past a blacksmith's shop. The rhythm of the two blacksmiths hammering away on the anvil allegedly inspired Fuc k to compose this piece. Since the march goes back to the year 1908, and Christine and Fuc k's friendship started - not without frictions - only one year before that date, there are doubts concerning the validity of the story, although this report constitutes the only reference on the birth of this march.

£186.20Le Mont St.Michel - Serge Lancen
Serge Lancen (Paris 1922) undoubtedly belongs to the top of contemporary European wind music composers. His MANHATTAN SYMPHONY (1962), CAP KENNEDY (1970), SYMPHONIE DE L'EAU (1986) and MISSA SOLEMNIS (1989) are now part of the classical modern symphonic band repertoire. Lancen always writes in the French tradition and is often inspired by folkore, the beauty of the French landscapes and even the great architectural monuments of his country. In this fine suite of four symphonic sketches he was inspired by the splendid site of the 'MONT SAINT-MICHEL'. The work dates from 1976 and was premiered by the French National Police band, conducted by Pierre Bigot, at a concert in the Paris 'Palais des Congrs' on May the 4th 1977. It evokes the splendour of one of Western Europe's great monumental abbeys. The mount arises amidst a symphony of mist and sand; the visitor goes through the main gate and enters the medieval town. He walks up to the abbey church and discovers the magnificent panorama. He recovers some time in an unexpected patch of green and admires the mighty fortress. Finally he reaches the actual abbey and visits the inspiring church and the sober refectory. At sunset, the abbey complex casts fanciful shadows on the beach and soon, in the light of the spots, the spire with the Archangel Michael lits up, high above the sea and the sand, right on the border between Normandy and Brittany.
