Five Variants of Dives and Lazarus is a Concert Band arrangement from the original work for string orchestra and harp by Ralph Vaughan Williams. The composition is based on the folk tune Dives and Lazarus, one of the folk songs quoted in Vaughan Williams' English Folk Song Suite. The ancient theme on which these variations are based goes back to the sixteenth century, and is known by various titles. Dives and Lazarus is a story told by Jesus in the Gospel of Luke. It tells of an unnamed rich man and a poor beggar named Lazarus. In the Latin Bible, the unnamed rich man is referred to as Dives from dives, the Latin word for rich. This work, based on the tune that Vaughan Williams had loved all his life, which came from the very soil of England, ageless and anonymous, was played at the composer's funeral service in Westminster Abbey on 19th September 1958.

In this moderately easy suite, Jan Van der Roost uses four authentic folk tunes from the Swedish-speaking part of Finland. These are from Nagu, Oravais, Lappfjrd and Karlebynejden, and have been joined together without pauses to form a continuous suite. The work begins with noble, almost meditative melodies. Gradually the tempo becomes faster, resulting in a brilliant and cheerful folk dance. The melody regularly goes from one band section to another ensuring that the timbre remains varied and there is no question of monotony. Jazzimut (Concert Band - Score and Parts)
In 2009, one year after its formation, the Swiss brass ensemble Azimuts Brass commissioned its conductor, Marc Jeanbourquin, to write them a signature tune. He composed Jazzimut, which features a festive introduction followed by a lyrical theme. After a few bars of rock rhythm, Jazzimut goes disco and finishes with a recapitulation of the introduction as a fanfare. The inspiration for Downtown Divertimento comes from Johan de Meijs daily wanderings in Chelsea, in lower Manhattan. The day begins with a leisurely walk to Madison Square Park with his dog Alice. They visit the dog run where she meets up withother city canines. On the way back they have a moment of reflection looking at the nearby Flatiron Building, the striking triangular city landmark. Johan goes for a run later in the day. His jogging shoes naturally head for The Highline, anabandoned railway viaduct that was transformed into a lushly landscaped National Park. This set of symphonic variations on the Israeli song, Hine ma Tov, was commissioned for the Bryan High School Band, Omaha, Nebraska. Hine ma Tov was first heard by the composer in the movie, "Raid on Entebbe." The main theme is presented in a very traditional setting by the tubas and low reeds, after which it goes through a series of fascinating transformations, leading to a brilliant, exciting finale.
