Souvenir Wind Band Set (Score & Parts)
In 1906 Bohemian violinist and composer Frantisek Drdla (1868-1944) composed the delightfully charming piece entitled Souvenir. This piece for violin and piano is one of the most popular compositions by Drdla. Wil van der Beek has produced this arrangement for Flute and Concert Band which remains faithful to the original version. The texture of the work allows the soloist to show off both their technical and musical talents and its charm makes it an ideal encore item at any concert.

Fanfare for the Sun Wind Band Set (Score & Parts)
Obviously, the music of John Williams is beyond comparison, but subconsciously one's thoughts do drift into that direction. Fanfare for the Sun is a radiant fanfare from the pen of Carl Wittrock. Nearly three minutes utmost concentration are required of your musicians to have them display stunning feats of technical brilliance. A moment of calm in this masterly composition is the vivacious and entertaining dialogue of clarinet, bassoon, oboe, and flute in the middle-section. The work was written as a commission by the Melomaan Foundation on the occasion of its anniversary. Een vergelijking met de muziek van John Williams mag uiteraard niet gelegd worden, maar onbewust gaan de gedachten wel in die richting. Fanfare for the Sun is een stralende fanfare van de hand van Carl Wittrock, die zijn voorliefde voor de filmmuziek niet onder stoelen of banken steekt. Rustpunt in deze korte doch magistrale compositie is de levendige en onderhoudende dialoog tussen klarinet, fagot, hobo en fluit in het middendeel. Score & Parts. The title of the work refers to the process of constant change that occurs in the music. The opening four note motif provides most of the intervallic and harmonic material. The work is in three main sections, the first of which alternates between pulsed and non-pulsed (or free) music; the second is a slow section with solos for flute and clarinet enhanced by electronic means, whilst the third is high-charged rhythmic music which resolves the symphonic argument.

The Butterfly that Stamped is a story from the anthology Just So Stories, written by Rudyard Kipling for his daughter who suffered constant bad health. The book inspired composer Maxim Aulio to compose this work which is in a French impressionistic style. The piece opens with a beautiful palace surrounded by the impressive gardens of King Solomon. It is in these gardens that the baritone saxophone makes its appearance representing King Solomon himself, the flute representing the butterfly couple, the clarinet representing Queen Balkis and the trumpet the djin.

Rutter composed the piece, in six movements, for a concert at which Bach's fifth Brandenburg concerto was to be performed, and so decided to write the piece for the same ensemble. This arrangement for Concert/Wind Band and Solo Flute adheres to the original presentation, but is expanded for a full band accompaniment to the solo flute. The harpsichord is optional, being cued elsewhere, but may be performed as in the original score by either harpsichord or an electronic keyboard with a similar setting. A jazz drumset is optionally included in the fourth (jazz waltz) movement, and other percussion discretely added in other movements. It is exciting to hear earlier musical forms brought into today's music appreciation, and this setting of a flute solo with band is especially refreshing for both soloist and band.
