    Concerto Rococ - Franco Cesarini

The title refers to the historical period that marked the transition between the baroque and classical styles. Rococo music is characterised by a profusion of ornaments, by graceful elegance and lightness of writing. Concerto Rococ consists of three movements: Toccata, Elegie and Gigue en Rondeau - typical musical forms of that time. The concerto is very demanding on the technique of the soloist, but consequently highlights the flute's agility and lyricism.

Apart from this, there are also many churches, chapels, windmills and a couple of museums--Mykonos is a truly ideal holiday destination. The Belgian wind band composer Johan Nijs captures impressions of the island's atmosphere in Mykonos. The work is written in a typically Greek style: two sirtakis are employed and the piece closes with acharacteristic Greek presto. Greek sounds are also incorporated into the slower passages.

From Crystals and Eagles - Thomas Doss

The title of this work alludes to the flight of the eagle. In the course of a short flight, the composer was able to get a birds-eye view of the landscape in which the sun's rays, glistening on the snow and ice, transformed the scenery into crystal. This unforgettable image of the breathtaking beauty of the mountains is captured in musical form in From Crystals and Eagles.

    Jig - Gustav Holst

Together with his good friend Ralph Vaughan Williams, Gustav Holst had a strong liking for the abundant folk music of the British Isles. This influence is heard in many of his works and is perhaps strongest in his Second Suite for Military Band and in the Saint Paul Suite for string orchestra. This work was composed in 1913 for the school orchestra of St. Paul's Girls School in London, where Holst was the Director of Music. The suite opens with this exuberant Jig, a dance originating from Scottish and Irish folk music in alternating duple and triple time (6/8 and 9/8), which has been expertly arranged for concert band.
