The German composer and arranger Manfred Schneider has been playing for many years with the military band Heeresmusikkorps 300 at Cologne. In the meantime he got a reputation as composer of light symphonic music for concert band in Germany and abroad. In the Molenaar Edition catalogue you find already several of his compositions, such as Upside Down, Song of Freedom, the rhythmical study Rock and Go and the most popular Rock Symphonie. Schneider is well at ease in today's musical styles and this time he was inspired by jazz music. The three-part Jazz Suite starts with a nice jazz waltz; the more quiet second part is a fine jazz ballad, whereas the final part is an exuberant jazz samba. A com-plete percussion section and a piano will provide the typical jazz spirit.

If there is one single jazz tune known by old and young people alike all over the world, it is undoubtedly 'Oh when the saints go marching in'. It has been played and recorded in every imaginable way by countless jazz stars from Louis Armstrong to all kinds of New-Orleans and Dixieland bands. Peter Kleine Schaars wrote this sparkling arrangement for symphonic band with solo vocal part. A slow introduction presents the theme and is immediately followed by a roaring swing version; then we get a quieter march tempo, but soon a break on the drums brings us again into a fine swinging tempo. This will be 'top of the bill' for any concert and everybody will love it!

The American composer Uri Hodorov studied at the famous 'Julliard School of Music' in New-York. Between 1980 and 1988 he conducted the conservatory of music and the wind band of Eilat in Israel and from 1995 to 2001 he conducted the symphonic band of Netaya, also in Israel. Since 2001, he works as free lance composer and arranger. This fiery and lively 'Tango' is, no doubt, a fine addition to the light-hearted wind band repertoire.

The composition 'Nahr-Al-Alwaan' (the river of colours) describes the course of a river. Raindrops and snow flakes give birth to the river in the mountains. Several small brooks flow into the river which follows its course through Eastern and Western countries. The mix of Eastern and Western music is expressed by the choice of the instrumentation. Besides the usual symphonic band instrumentation, several oriental musical instruments such as the darbuka and the kanun also play an important role.
