Missa Brevis, written for choir and wind band, was commissioned by the Conseil Dpartemental pour la Musique et la Culture de Haute-Alsace (Dir.: Philippe Pfisterer) in Guebwiller (France), in celebration of the millennium of Pope Leon IX'sbirth in guisheim (France). The composer conducted the first performance on June 23, 2002. It was performed live for the French television channel France 2. The mass movements Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, Benedictus, and Agnus Deiare very suitable for the Catholic as well as the Protestant liturgy. For this mass, various ways for performing in diverse variable strengths are possible. An instrumental performance is possible if the brass represents the choir parts. In thisoption, it is desirable for the brass to be positioned separately from the rest of the band (on a gallery, for example), so that the idea of two choirs is approached. In a performance with a large choir, the brass can work very well as a support. Inthat case, the dynamics of the brass should be adapted somewhat, since these are actually intended for an instrumental performance. You can also leave out the brass entirely for the benefit of the choir. For the accompaniment of smaller choirs, youcan opt for a small ensemble from the band. This can also be a quartet, put together as desired. For the performance of this mass, the obvious choice is one of the above options. However, as an alternative, a performance with a combination of theseoptions (vocally/instrumentally) is also possible not just from an artistic point of view (variation), but also from a practical starting point for example in the case that the choir has rehearsed only two movements. With a full strength, theconductor can vary the instrumentation to his or her liking. Then the brass can also play a role in the accompaniment (instead of supporting the choir). The following combinations are possible:1. clarinet choir (from Eb Clarinet to BassClarinet)2. clarinet choir + saxophones3. brass (flugelhorns, horns, euphoniums, bass section)4. brass (2 trumpets / 2 trombones)5. double reeds (optional + flute, optional + string bass)6. tutti7. all winds8. allbrassIn a performance by brass band and choir, it is usually advisable to leave out option 1 (choir + brass + band). The choir sings self-reliantly, accompanied by a full brass band. Oberhessische Bauerntnze - Ottmar Gerter
These four entertaining movements originated in the Thirties. They are an example of popular original compositions of high quality. The work was originally written for small orchestra. Norbert Studnitzky has arranged this series of dances for wind band and at the same time also retained longer chamber music pasages as in the original work.Thus here we have a work for wind band which on the one hand is suitable for developing a musical sense of humour in a playful way and which can also be performed on stage with a group of folk dancers. Ottmar Gerster studied in Frankfurt/main and then taught composition an several colleges of music in Leipzig. his music aims to be accesible to all listeners, even when he uses advanced composition techniques.

£245.50Symphonie de l'Eau - Serge Lancen
This symphony was composed in 1984 and is dedicated to the great French composer Ida Gotkovsky a good friend of the Lancen family. It was the test piece in the Seccion Primera of the famous Spanish wind band contest Certamen International de Bandes de Msica Ciudad de Valncia and was recorded by the Symphonic Band of the Maastricht Conservatory of Music conducted by Sef Pijpers. Serge Lancen himself related the genesis of this symphony as follows:When I was twelve years old I had started composing a piece which described the cycle of the water. The project was however abandoned and only some themes were left unused. In July 1983, I went by boat to the WASBE conference in Skien, Norway and was seduced by the North Sea. During the travel a musical theme was born and was the trigger for the realisation of my ancient project which I still fancied'. The 'Symphonie de l'Eau' is in fact a musical description of the cycle of the water which the composer defines as follows:'A slight mist rises and turns into a cloud. Water drops fall on the mountain. A brooklet rises and clears a way throughout the alpine pastures. Soon other small watercourses join the original brook that is now reinforced as to become a real roaring mountain river falling in a lake amidst a quiet and poetic surrounding. The water turns again into a river when leaving the lake and gradually becomes a big stream which majestically flows towards the sea. A slight mist is rising from the huge surface and so the cycle of the water starts all over again.

The title refers to a description of the wind of the north made by Olaus Magnus who lived in the 16th century. He drew maps describing people, animals, weather, winds, sea monsters etc. The map Carta Marina was unprecise, but the best they had. But he never visited the places himself. In the map over northern parts of Norway, he describes the wind "Circius" as the worst of all winds. The fast sections refers to the wind. In the middle section I borrow a folksong-like tune by Catharinus Elling (1858-1942). The text by Kristoffer Janson, tells about fishermen in small open boats. When they faced the force of nature they could do nothing but put their lives in the hand of God. - Torstein Aagaard-Nilsen

This development in sustainable energy sources and the winds that flow across the great state serve as the inspiration for this composition. The piece begins by depicting the great open spaces that stretch for miles across the Oklahoma landscape. Small gusts of wind (represented by scalar and arpeggiated passages in the mallets and woodwinds) dance across the landscape. £98.00Milonga del Angel (Clarinet, Soprano Saxophone and Trombone Trio with Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Piazzolla, Astor - Olsrud, Sverre Stakston
This arrangement was made after hearing Astor Piazzolla s 1986 recording of his own work written in 1965. The original instrumentation of bandoneon, violin and string bass is here arranged for three wind soloists with Concert Band. The Soprano Sax is the main soloist (filling the bandoneon role), while the trombone and clarinet shares the violin part as a kind of flirting undertone to the soprano saxophone. It s not possible to make a 100% correct notation of the solo parts, so it s recommended to listen to the record album Zero Hour from 1986 to get the best impression of the work. Enjoy Milonga Del Angel and imagine a small, dark cafe in Buenos Aires!
