Camille Saint-Saens "grande fantasie zoologique" is a collection of 14 short movements, each with a specific animal subject. Performed now by the symphony, this suite was originally scored for two pianos and chamber orchestra. Yo Goto consulted Saint-Saens' score to set these nine movements for concert band. For humor, color and clarity he added piano and various percussion. Also, phrases were added for continuity and impact, particularly in the "Final".

In 2001 Eric Swiggers (Deurne, 1968) won the first prize of the composition contest organised by the city of Hilvarenbeek with his 'Suite for Saxophone Quartet, Piano and Percussion'. He also writes contemporary but easily accessible music for symphonic and fanfare band and also pieces for youth wind bands using the pen name 'Ennio Salvere'. Knights of the Round Table is a nice suite for youth symphonic band in three parts: 'King Arthur', 'Camelot' and 'Excalibur', referring respectively to the hero of the Celtic legends, his castle and his magic sword.

Though Silent Night has been arranged for band many times before, this unique setting by Rick Kirby deserves special attention. An oboe solo (cued for alto sax) accompanied by piano sets the stage for an impressive rhapsodicapproach that includes lush full ensemble passages with harmonic twists, solos for recorder (flute), bassoon (tenor sax) and euphonium. Serge Lance was born in Paris 1922. The whole of his life has been dominated by music. He wrote his first work at the age of four.Lancen studied the piano with Marguerite Long and composition with Tony Aubin at the conservatory of his native town. In 1949 he won a prize for his Etudes, and some time later he was awarded the Prix de Rome! His work as a composer is very varied and includes symphonic music, choral works, ballet music and several concertos.Versailles, composed and premiered in 1980, is a 4-part piece in which Serge Lancen seems to paint a musical portrait of the wellknown castle of Versailles.
