Handel in Rock - Luc Gistel
Handel's Tochter Zion is one of the most beautiful hymns ever composed. Luc Gistel has arranged this musical gem in a variety of styles using many of the outstanding rhythmic elements of modern music. The piece opens with the original theme in all its natural pure sound, transforming into music in a pop style. The middle section is romantic with meandering peaceful and sensitive lines. This is followed by a reappearance of the pop melody. The piece comes to a close with the return of the initial theme.

Otto M. Schwarz is endeavoring to contribute new ideas to concert band literature. He has contributed in the field of multimedia (Asteroid), and with his many compositions in symphonic/modern arrangement (Jazz Waltz No 1, Fire and Ice or Band Fever). His new composition Funk Attack is, as the name suggests, a piece in funk style. Otto M. Schwarz first gained his experience in his style in the 8o?s, transcribing numbers by famos Amerarican bands including "Earth, Wind and Fire", "Tower of Power"", and the British slap idol "Mark King" (Level 42). Funk attack is atypical of "the concert band scene" and requires absolute precision in phrasing and rhythm. Without the support of agreat percussion groove, the orchestra plays an interlocked theme in the central section in style of recent American Big Bands. Otto M. Schwarz dedicated this work to "Alexander Veit and Symphonic Winds".

It was written on commission of the prestigious South Tyrolese concert band, Symphonic Winds. The piece features two soloists, one saxophone and one flugel. Rhythms like Hip Hop Style and Double Samba support a catchy melody, which is later taken up by the full band, forming the basis for the above-mentioned soloists' improvisations. A unique work in the world of wind music, Band Fever allows both soloists and conductor to display individuality and creativity. It is especially suitable as an opener of the light part of a concert, or as afeature number for special soloists in the orchestra.

Starflash describes a celestial phenomenon that the composer witnessed in the summer of 2005 gazing at the night sky over the Greek island of Kos. He saw two shooting stars coming from different directions, approaching each other and burning up. This piece begins with a fanfare representing the vastness of space, followed by the flight of the shooting stars. Characteristic Greek dance elements are interwoven with themes in the style of film music. In the middle section, a bolero with an oriental flair sets in, symbolizing the close mainland of Turkey with the lights shining at night. Thanks to its unconventional rhythms and catchy melodies, Starflash is an easily accessiblemusical description of a personal experience in a modern symphonic style.
