The first movement 'Good Friends' is a light sounding parade march; the second movement 'Lonely Bird' is rather a lyrical ballad with a slightly swinging accompaniment; the third part 'Rock-A-Cha-cha' brings a fine contrast, whereas the final part 'Spring Song' is a kind of rhythmical folk dance. This symphony is the most important work of Spanish composer Teo Aparicio-Barbern. The 2002 International Contest for Bands "Ciudad de Valencia", one of the most prestigious competitions in Europe, marked its first public performance. Throughout the work, which consists of three movements, the composer uses a modern musical vocabulary and combines strong melodic instrumentation with impressive rhythmic passages. Asgard is based on a Scandinavian romantic narrative in the light of the ancient Germanic Sagas....where the flowery landscape remains in that sweet-scented season where spring is always on the brink of summer. Its fields resemble smooth green lawns(maintained by the grazing red cattle and woolly sheep) and its forests are home to deer and songbirds. The area is protected by an unsurmountable stone wall, and is impossible to enter except by the grace of Odin. It is here, at High Nest in Val-hall, that Odin sits on his throne and surveys all those in his dominion.

I Love the 207 was composed in February 2010 for a commission by Osumi Symphonic Band in Kyoto. It was first performed on 25 April 2010 by Osumi Symphonic Band, conducted by Masanori Ozaki. This piece begins with an introduction to present the instruments, followed by a light scherzo. The title is an affectionate reference to the commuter rail 207 series of the West Japan Railway Company. When the band started their activity, the 207 series trains began running through the fields next to the building where they practice. The composer hopes that the trains continue to run and bring smiles to people's faces.

Serge Lancen was born in Paris in 1922. The whole of his life has been dominated by music. He wrote his first work at the age of four. He studied with Tony Aubin at the Paris Conservatoire. In 1949 he won a prize for his Etudes, and some time later he was awarded the Prix de Rome.His work as composer is very varied and includes a number of solo concerti (for example for flute, double bass and piano), a Sinfonietta and a large number of works in the light symphonic genre (many of these commissioned by the French Radio), chamber music, film music, and during the last ten years various works for wind band, such as the Manhattan Symphony, Festival in Kerkrade, Symphonie de Paris and this beautiful Chant de l'Arbre (Song of the Tree).

Atmospheres was composed for the Uster Musiktage and first performed in Uster (Switzerland) on october 1st 1989.The idea for the music comes from the thought that whilst a room remains the same, somehow the 'atmosphere' within that room changes according to the ambiance created by actions and emotions of the people in it. For example, an argument can cause an uncomfortable, uneasy atmosphere whereas laughter can cause a light, happy atmosphere in the same place. The place itself remains the same, but the atmosphere changes.So, in this piece there is an 'atmosphere' chord, which hardly changes throughout the piece, except that it is transposed at times. However, what goes on around that chord causes it to apparantly change according to the prevailing emotion. There are 3 sections which are quite seperate, but the music is played without a break. These 3 sections are really self explanatory: 1 - Mystery, 2 - Evil and 3 - Calm.

A Sinfonietta is a "small symphony", so it is a composition that does not boast the length of a real symphony (although this could be the case) and so allows the composer to take some liberties. In this sinfonietta we have three contradictory themes. In the first part there is a reflecting theme at the start with the woodwinds, later we have a more pathetic theme with the low brass and finally a clear, light theme with the complete band.
