Soft Kitty (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Newlin, Edith - Clark, Andy

Your beginning band students will love Andy Clark's arrangement of this favorite lullaby, recently featured in many episodes of two very popular television series. Using only the first five notes students learned in beginning band instruction, every section of the band gets a chance to shine. The variations demonstrate how a melody can be played in different styles, providing excellent teaching opportunities. The brief introduction can be performed as a solo, duet or full section of trumpets, clarinets or saxophones. Fun for everyone at your beginners' first concert! Duration: 1.15

Rock Music (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Shapiro, Alex

For Concert Wind Band and Pre-Recorded Soundscapes.Alex Shapiro first brought electroacoustic music - paired with using an everyday object as an instrument - to middle school bands with her 2010 piece, PAPER CUT. Now comes ROCK MUSIC, possibly the very first geo-electroacoustic minimalist band piece, largely devoid of melody, and of rhythm. Conceptual and atmospheric, the music features compelling textures from instruments, voices, and rocks that weave a wind band into a piece of sonic fabric stretched across linear time. As the notes slowly crawl, melt, and scrape over a sonic landscape in random, irregular ways, we're connected to the ancient glaciers which carved the world we know, and which we strive to protect. Like PAPER CUT, ROCK MUSIC can be equally appreciated by mature bands and their audiences, as well. To perform ROCK MUSIC, you'll need an audio system capable of playing the prerecorded audio tracks from a laptop computer via a small digital audio interface connected to an audio mixer. Download information is provided in the printed piece.Duration: 4:15

Liberty (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Galante, Rossano

Comprised of two main themes, Liberty strives to capture the essence of Americana. The first of the two themes is stated by a trumpet duet, then later the full ensemble. The second theme is robust and emotionally dynamic and accompanied by a driving, rhythmic pulse. The arc of the piece returns to the first theme, this time more transparent, and ending on a gentle, quiet note. A rewarding work for winds with plenty of variety and depth. Duration: 5:15

American Legion (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Parker, Charles - Glover, Andrew

Here's a classic American march which is perfect for any concert! Limited ranges and technical demands make this a great march for middle school and smaller, less experienced high school bands. The first half features solid interplay between melody and countermelody instruments. The first trio features a solid melody ornamented by upper woodwinds, and a powerful finish giving the whole band a chance to shine. An excellent teaching tool for both march style and alla-breve, "American Legion" will have toes tapping from start to finish! Duration: 2.15

Blessings (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Ken, Thomas - Smith, Robert W.

Based on the liturgical hymn "The Doxology" written in 1674 by Thomas Ken, this lyrical and sensitive arrangement for the beginning band provides multiple teaching opportunities in a rich musical setting. The first melodic statement is written as a musical exchange between soloists or sections creating a connection and awareness between sections of the band. The second melodic statement is a lush full ensemble setting in contrast. The use of mixed meter in an accessible and musically logical manner reinforces teaching and concepts introduced in the first year of most beginning band methods. A beautiful and educational choice for your concert program! Duration: 2.00

Frederick's Black Devils (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Murtha, Paul

March of the First Special Service Force.During World War II, Winston Churchill initiated the formation of Special Force Commando Units that would prove so effective as to change the course of the war. The First Special Service Force, led by their intrepid colonel, Robert T. Frederick, was perhaps the most famous of these units. Due to their ferocious nature and blackened faces for night raids, the fearful Germans gave them the nickname The Black Devils. In 2015 they were awarded the Congressional Gold Medal, the highest honour the U.S. government can bestow. Frederick's Black Devils is a stirring concert march that pays tribute to this legendary unit.

Kingsfold (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Vinson, Johnnie

The haunting melody of this traditional tune likely dates to the Middle Ages, and was published by British composer Ralph Vaughan Williams in the 1906 English Hymnal. Freely adapted by Johnnie Vinson in this setting for young bands, the minor melody is stated first by low clarinets and horns. The next section introduces an original theme, which is then combined with the first melody in the moving final section. Beautifully paced and scored largely in choral fashion, this is a wonderfully fresh and unique offering.

Rubies (After Thelonious Monk's Ruby, My Dear) (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Harbison, John - Martin, Peter Stanley

Composer John Harbison writes: "Rubies is a version of Thelonious Monk's Ruby, My Dear, which he composed while still in his teens. When I was invited by the Seattle Symphony to make a short piece reflecting my first musical passions, my thoughts were of Bach and Monk. Since I had recently made some Bach-like chorale preludes, I chose to make a version of Monk's tune, first in a chamber-musical, contrapuntal manner, then in the grand orchestral style I had always heard lurking there."
