The Dutch composer of the march, Matthias van Nispen tot Pannerden, studied classical saxophone as well as band conducting and composition at the Brabant Conservatory in Tilburg. He is a baritone saxophonist with the Orkest van de Koninklijke Luchtmacht (Band of the Royal Netherlands Air force). He is also active as a freelance conductor and composer.

Spanish folklore elements--which are embedded in the formal structure of a"classical" rhapsody and represent the southern European atmosphere of Valdemossa--leave their mark on the complete work.
