This work was commissioned by the Musikverein Prechtal e. V. (Germany) for its 100th anniversary in the year of 2021. The composition opens with a powerful rhythmic motif, which soon develops into the main theme of this brisk overture. The unwavering, joyful melodies and a positive atmosphere give the work a high-spirited energy. The strong pulse has the music firmly in its grasp and only quietens gradually in a pensive middle movement that seems to emanate from another world. This atmospheric passage can evoke dreamy thoughts and a variety of visions. But then the liveliness of the previous motifs returns, to take us back to the vivacious here and now, full of optimism and determination for the hundred years to come. On to a wonderful future! £395.00Scapino (A Comedy Overture) (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Walton, William - Noble, Paul
William Walton's Scapino: A Comedy Overture took as its inspiration the three-act comedy of intrigue Scapin the Schemer (French: Les Fourberies de Scapin) by the French playwright Moli?re. The title character Scapin is similar to the archetypical Scapino character. His name is related to the Italian word "scappare" (to escape) and his name translates to "little escape artist" in reference to his tendency to flee from fights, even those he himself begins. The play was first staged on 24 May 1671 in the theatre of the Palais-Royal in Paris. Scapino tends to make a confusion of anything he undertakes and metaphorically "flees" from one thought, activity or love interest to another, as his name implies, although he usually will return to it - eventually. Self-preservation and self-interest are his main concerns. This is not to say his wits are without merit. He is a schemer and scoundrel, and takes a certain pride in these facts. He was originally a masked character, although later versions usually have the actor simply powder his face. He is traditionally shown with a hooked nose and a pointed beard. Scapino was composed on commission from Frederick Stock and the Chicago Symphony on the occasion of the group's 50th anniversary, and received its world premiere by that ensemble, conducted by Stock, in 1941. This faithful arrangement is sure to find its way into the serious repertoire of outstanding Concert/Wind Bands worldwide.

The special occasion that Philip Sparke was honoured to write this piece for was the 200th anniversary of the Stadtmusik Bad Sackingen. Since Bad Sackingen is known as the 'Trompeterstadt', or trumpeter city, Sparke's creative process was influenced by Joseph Victor Scheffel's poem, Der Trompeter von Sackingen (The Trumpeter from Sackingen), which is based on a true story. The overture starts with a majestic fanfare, followed by a lively molto vivace. It is joined by a brilliant trumpet call in honour of the city's famous resident.Duration: 7:30

The Black River Overture was commissioned by the music society Pfarrkapelle Schwarzenbach, on the occasion of its 50th anniversary. Schwarzenbach literally means "black brook" - hence the title of the work. This light-hearted piece is a compliment to all music societies and wind bands that have continued despite alternative, modern leisure-time activities in villages; as such, they are able to offer a wonderful and meaningful occupation to both the young and young-at-heart: namely, making music! £164.99Wilten Festival Overture (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Sparke, Philip
To celebrate the 350th anniversary of the Stadtmusikkapelle Wilten in Innsbruck Philip Sparke composed Wilten Festival Overture. A bold fanfare, led by the horns, forms the opening of the work from which an expressive theme unfolds until the full band reaches a climax. Short solo statements from saxophone, horn and trumpet lead to a recapitulation of this theme which melts into a rhythmic Vivo. A robust melody is is then played by the clarinets and taken up by the whole band before a legato figure leads to a cantabile theme, again presented by the clarinets. The original Vivo melody reappears before the opening fanfare is briefly heard and the work comes to an end with a short Coda. A great experience for the whole band!Duration: 8:00

This work was commissioned by the civilian wind orchestra Shimizu il compagno, based in Shimizu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan, as a commemorative work for their 10th Anniversary. The world premiere was performed by the ensemble, conducted by Hiromichi Hamada in 2017. Having held discussions with the head of the orchestra, Tomohiro Tsuji, and members of the group, Satoshi Yagisawa settled on a central motif for this commemorative work: fellow, or companion, in the sense of the Italian il compagno, which features in the orchestra's name. The work also strives to describe the characteristic friendliness of Shimizu city, a place known for its warmth and kindness which is visible from both Mount Fuji and the sea. The composition is written in Yagisawa's typical dramatic style with an atmosphere of scintillating light and lyrical warmth, making it an excellent choice for opening a concert.Duration: 5.15

Stepstones was commissioned by the Harmonie Victoria Titeng from Ttange (Luxembourg) for its 125th anniversary. The composer references the music of Rossini, who died 25 years before the commissioning band was founded. The second element this work refers to the legendary conductor and composer Leonard Bernstein who was born at the time the band celebrated its 25th anniversary. This spectacular overture has a strong historical and musical story and is ideal to open your concert in style and grandeur!

As part of its 850th anniversary, the Swiss town of Reinach (Canton of Basel Country), commissioned Gauthier Dupertuis to produce an energetic and lively work for the town's concert band, the MG Konkordia Reinach, conducted by maestro Miguel Etchegoncelay. Reinach Jubilee follows the form of a miniature overture, characterised by an almost regular pulsation from the beginning to the end of the work. The first part is of a resolutely festive character, in contrast with a peaceful central part, gradually returning to the solemn and jubilant outbursts of the beginning of the work. A perfect piece to open your concert!

Majesty is a powerful and spectacular overture. Right from the start, the brass open the work brilliantly before making way for a majestic hymn mostly played by the woodwind. The end of the piece repeats the opening fanfare as a monumental finale in the style of an American symphonic march. This work was commissioned by the Bourbourg Wind Orchestra (France), conducted by Claude Deconinck, on the occasion of its 230th anniversary. This piece was premiered by the commissioning orchestra on 19 November 2022, just two months after the death of Queen Elizabeth II. Naturally, this work is dedicated to her.
