Nearly 400 years ago (in 1609) Henry Hudson and his ship, the Half Moon, explored the majestic river that was later to bear his name. Half Moon on the Hudson pays tribute to this area of New York and the spirit of exploration and adventure. A regal fanfare announces the beginning of the work, followed by an energetic and rhythmic section that features various sections of the band answering one another. An emotional and chorale-like middle section provides a calmer mood along with lush harmonizations. Starsleet - Aslak Dørum
Stjernesludd is a hit single from the popular Norwegian band DumDum Boys. The song-writer Aslak Drum is the bass-player in the band. It was recorded in 1997, and it has been a well know radio-hit ever since. The lyrics are set in a dark tone, andthey tell the story of a gloomy and "black and white" feeling in the cold weather before Christmas. "But when the winter comes, we can make angels in the snow..." In 2010, Norwegian singer Kurt Nilsen accompanied by The Norwegian RadioOrchestra recorded it for their CD "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas".If performed with Tenor Sax soloist, the first time bracket can be omitted.

The march "Honour to the Veterans" was the composers third composition ever. He sent this march to Kjell Martinsen, who was the conductor of The Kings Guards Band in Norway. He liked the march so much that it was included on the CD which was releasedin connection with the bands 150 years anniversary.The march is not very difficult. There is a variety of melody lines in the march that differs from many other marches, especially the piccolo flute solo makes it a little bit special. Themarch is also playable for bands lacking a piccolo flute player, because the melody line in this part of the march is well taken care of.

The Enemy God and the Dance of the Spirits - Sergei Prokofiev
The Russian ballet director Sergei Diaghilev commissioned many composers to write music for the theatre. This was what caused Serge Prokofiev to compose the four part Scytische Suite (also known as Ala and Lolli) in 1916, from which The Enemy God and the Dance of the Spirits can be heard on this CD. This suite is one of Prokofiev's first works, and received negative criticism following its first performance on account of its being "uncivilised". Prokofiev himself wrote after this first performance ". . . The timpani player beat the skin of the timpani to tatters, and the whole orchestra voiced a protest. A cellist complained that he only put up with the violence, createdby the blaring brass, on account of his sick wife and three children . . .".
