Prince of Denmark's March (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Clarke, Jeremiah - Sparke, Philip

Jeremiah Clarke (c. 1674-1707) belongs to the generation of English composers following that of Henry Purcell. Not much is known about his early life, but by 1685 he was a chorister of the Chapel Royal, a group of liturgical musicians attached to the court. He held the post of organist at Winchester College from 1692 but later returned to London as Master of the Choristers at St Paul's Cathedral. The Prince of Denmark's March is perhaps his best-known work and was originally written for harpsichord, although Clarke later included it in a collection of pieces for wind instruments.Duration: 3:00

Prince William Overture (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - O'Reilly, John

Commissioned by the Saunders Middle School Band in Prince William County, Virginia, this overture is an excellent example of John O'Reilly's outstanding contribution to the concert band repertoire. Syncopated rhythms and catchy melodies make this piece a favourite bands and audiences.

Princess Royal, Suite of Cotswold Folkdances (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Lane, Philip - Noble, Paul

The Suite of Cotswold Folkdances (not to be confused with Cotswold Dances) was commissioned by the Stroud Festival to celebrate HRH, the Princess Anne and her family taking up residence in the Cotswolds, near Stroud. The suite of dances is based on traditional Morris tunes prevalent in the Cotswolds at the turn of the century. Although the tunes themselves are left largely untouched, their implied harmonies and moods are treated more freely to create a balanced work for the concert hall. Numbers 2, 3, and 4 may recall more familiar variants since it is in the nature of folksong/dance for there to be more than one version when examples were transmitted, not always accurately, by word of mouth or note of pipe.
