This impressive work by John Higgins is a descriptive essay for band, reflecting the mysteries of Native American peoples and their kinship with nature. The varied musical sections are subtitled: "Enchanted Mesa"; "Adobe Village"; "Ancient Voices"; and "Mother Earth, Father Sky." The music for Puff, the Magic Dragon was written by Peter Yarrow from the group Peter, Paul and Mary. The lyrics is based on a poem written in 1959 by Peter Yarrow, at that time a 19 year old student from the University of Cornell. It tells the story of the ageless dragon ?Puff? and his playmate. Jackie Paper, a little boy who grows up while loosing the childhoods imagined fairy tales, let Puff be with himself. The history about the song takes place at the lake in the fictional town of Honalee. The song became a hit with the group Yarrow through a recording released in January 1963.Duration: 2.15

Pulcinella (Euphonium Solo with Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Sparke, Philip

Pulcinella was commissioned by the Taiwanese euphonium player Tzu-Hsiang Lin. Lin is a renowned soloist and teacher and a Besson Euphonium Artist. He teaches euphonium at Taipei National University of the Arts, National Taiwan University of Arts, Shih Chien University and National Kaohsiung Normal University. Lin gave the premiere of Pulcinella in both its concert band and brass band versions in January 2021. Pulcinella continues Sparke's series of euphonium solos named after characters of the Italian commedia dell'arte and opens with a long and expressive minor melody for the soloist over a brooding accompaniment. This is taken up briefly by the full band and is extended by the soloist after a change of key. A cadenza, accompanied by fragments of the main melody leads to a complete change of mood, tempo and tonality, introducing a Vivo section starting with a perky syncopated tune for the soloist. The band then uses elements of this new tune to introduce a change of key, where the soloist introduces a more lyrical second subject over a pulsing accompaniment. The band then takes this up and changes key to reintroduce the original Vivo melody, which leads to a short and acrobatic coda to bring the work to a spectacular close. Duration: 6.45

Pulsation (A "Groove" for "Grove") (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Saucedo, Richard L.

Written entirely in one tempo, but with the meter alternating between 4/4 and 6/8 throughout, Richard Saucedo creates an ingenious effect of pulsating motion along with layers of textures and sounds. Starting with a soloistic dialogue between flute and clarinet the work progresses to thicker sonorities and percussive effects including clapping and shouting. Definitely an enjoyable work that is off the beaten path!Duration: 2:45

Pulse (Euphonium Solo with Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Doss, Thomas

Pulse is a solo work for baritone or euphonium and concert band. As the title suggests, this piece is very rhythmic in nature. Pulse represents life and vitality, which also characterises the work. The tempo remains virtually constant throughout the piece. Even during the cadenza, played by the baritone, the pulse of the timpani continues to beat steadily. This work is dedicated to the young soloist Felix Geroldinger of upper Austria.
