Connections - Wyeth

One of the biggest deficiencies in today's middle level bands is the ability for them to produce a smooth legato with connections between notes. This series of books for all band instruments presents a logical sequence in a variety of keys to improve the students' legato playing aspect of band performance. This book includes: drills that emphasize key understanding and chord progression movement from whole notes to half notes, tone, balance, blend and intonation of the ensemble and daily warm-ups to build strength and flexibility for the brass instruments, technical facility in the woodwinds and rudiments in the percussion.

Constellation

Introduce the march form to your students with the simplest of marches. This piece features bold trumpet fanfare figures, where quarter notes are the most difficult rhythms to play. In addition, the tune only uses the first 6 notes of the Bb scale (Bb through G) as its range.

Contemplation

Contemplation by composer Larry Clarkis written in a contemplative manner for beginning students. It begins with a lush opening section with an elegant melody. This is contrasted by an uptempo section with a frolicking feel, which is a variation on the same musical material. Contemplationis a very musically gratifying piece for beginning wind players.
