A New Horizon

A New Horizon was composed for the 2021 University of Mobile High School Honor Band during its most challenging season in memory, and contains dynamic swells, subito changes, and crisp articulations. The title of this joyful, upbeat piece is a reminder that hope remains and we should keep our eyes on the future: a new horizon.

A Walk in the Park

A Walk in the Park for Walter was composed for Avenllaneda's John F. Kennedy High School Band. This composition features dynamic brass, sustained chords, sweeping & energetic woodwind lines, and a recurring 3-note motif, in addition the the intuitive musical phrasing for which Strommen is known. The vibrant fast sections are contrasted by a waltz in the middle of the piece, which is then followed by a wonderfully bold ending.

Abalone Sunset

Abalone Sunset captures a glimpse of evening hours at the beach. Written in such a way as to inspire confidence in intermediate players, optional solo opportunities are marked in several instruments. Within the harmony, there are several instances of tension (dissonance) within the sound canvas, expressing the glow of soft color and changing light as the sun sets over a stunning ocean scene.

Aberystwyth Variants

A classic hymn is given an exceptional variation style treatment by popular composer William Harbinson. You can find Bill's pieces on many state festival lists and this one will be no exception. You will hear glorious fanfare gestures, beautiful lyrical lines, lush harmonies and more in this sophisticated setting of the hymn. Alert your music list committee about this excellent new piece.

Academic Festival March

Academic Festival March features a range of textures, dynamics, and articulation while highlighting a stately dotted eighthnote motive throughout. Strong homophonic presentations of the main theme are balanced with antiphonal play between the upper and lower voices. Though written primarily in Bb Major, a short minor modulation will stretch your students to explore different finger patterns. This courtly march provides students with ample learning opportunities and paths to success, making it the perfect "academic festival" or contest opener.

Acclaim

Your young band is sure to receive high acclaim when they play this nifty two-step march. It is composed of just half notes and quarter notes, but there are several accidentals and a key change to keep things interesting and band members learning. This chipper tune will be an audience favorite!

Achieve

The march style is important to the heritage of the modern concert band. Why not get beginners off to a great start by teaching them this essential band style as early as possible?Achieveuses only the first six notes of the Bb-major scale and utilizes two repeated eighth notes as the most difficult rhythm. It is written in traditional march form and style, but without modulation in the trio.

Achilles' Wrath

Adamant

Larry Clark's Adamant is strong from the very beginning helping even the youngest of players sound confident and assertive. The work is set in C minor with simple rhythms no more difficult than two repeated eighth notes. With biting dissonances and angular interjections in the flowing main theme, the piece is quite dramatic for beginning band students. They will want to play it again and again.

Admiration

After just ten weeks of study, you can get your students to play in the march style, which is essential to the band's heritage. Admiration March has all of the standard trademarks of an American style march -- but with very limited notes and rhythms. Totally tuneful and fun to play!
