Based on the poems by German poet Carl Hauptmann (late Romanticism) and the English poet William Wordsworth (early Romanticism). Carl Hauptmann was in poor health as a child, but highly intelligent. He studied philosophy, psychology and biology. In the latter he was admitted to the degree of doctor. His marriage provided financial independence, so that he could focus on his studies. Hauptmann wrote various novels, plays, poetry and scientific works. Night Twilight floats above the valley's night mists are hanging, there's a whispering brook. Now the covering veil is lifting quite: come and look! See the magic land before our gaze: tall as dreams the silver mountains stand, crossed by silent silver paths shining from a secret land. Noble, pure, the dreaming country sleeps. By the path the shadow black and hogh of a beach. a wisp of a white smoke creeps to the dark'ning sky. Where the valley is the darkest hued countless little lights shine silently. O my soul! Drink of solitude! Carl Hauptmann Wordsworth 'introduced' a new type of poetry, based on the speech of the common man. This was his answer to the poetry of the classicism which was bound by rigid rules. His definition of poetry was: the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings from emotions recollected in tranquility. Franz Leh?r was born in Kom?rom, Hungary on 30th April 1870. From the age of fifteen he received composition and violin lessons at the Prague conservatory from Anton?n Dvor?k. In 1905 he composed The Merry Widow which became an instant worldwide success. The libretto of this operetta provides a succession of intimate arias and duets with festive ensembles. In 1958, Domenico Modugno (1928-1994) song Nel blu dipinto di blu (or Volare) was the Italian entry at the Eurovision Song Contest. Modugno did not win the contest (he became third) but the song - a true sing-along - turned out to be a worldwide hit. In the course of decades, Volare has been translated into various languages, and performed by many artists of repute, like The Gipsy Kings, Dean Martin, Louis Armstrong, Petula Clark, and David Bowie. Another fabulous arrangement from Adrian Taylor of popular tunes for Junior Wind Ensemble. It is not necessary to have all parts being played for these arrangements. Most will work fine with just the two Trumpet/Clarinet parts and a bass line from trombones, tubas or bassoons. With the exception of the bassoon part, all instruments have a part 1 (more advanced and with key signatures) and a part 2 (easier music, lower notes, rarely crossing the break for woodwind players, and without key signatures for treble clef instruments). A piano part is included to help fill out the harmonies for smaller groups.

Tara's Theme Wind Band Set (Score & Parts)
Max Steiner was born in Vienna in 1888, and grew up surrounded by music. He was a student of the Imperial Academy of Music, having among his teachers Gustav Mahler. In 1936 he signed an agreement with Warner. Steiner, considered the father of symphonic music in Hollywood style. One of his most famous and popular masterworks is, without any doubt, Gone with the Wind (1939). The movie was an immediate success and won ten Academy Awards. In spite of the years passed, this movie still moves young audiences around the world. Lorenzo Bocci has chosen the song Tara's Theme from this movie and turned the romantic music into an arrangement for concert band. 0:03:50

VIEW SCORE PDF This magnificent festive suite was written by Kevin Norbury for the Pierre Elliott Trudeau High School Wind Symphony and features three well known carols set in a Renaissance style. Three contrasting movements comprise the work: i. Processional (Personent hodie - On this day earth shall ring) This is a short piece imagining a torchlight Yuletide procession (perhaps bearing the traditional roasted wild boar), using a well-known Christmas melody from the large collection of music compiled in the 16th century called Piae Cantiones (1582). The tune is presented twice with accompanying, related melodic material. ii. Pastorale (Quem pastores laudavere - Shepherds sang their praises o'er him) This is a 14th-century melody which was originally collected by Michael Praetorius at the end of the 16th-century. The treatment throughout is very lyrical without overly complex harmonies. The melody is heard three times with brief linking episodes and a short coda. iii. Celebration! (In dulci jubilo - In sweet celebration - Ding-dong merrily on high) This magnificent 13th-century melody was also a part of Michael Praetorius's collection. It is traditionally associated with the words 'Good Christian men, rejoice!' The opening is a straight transcription of the great chorale prelude for organ by J.S. Bach. After the grandeur of the opening, the tune is heard in more of a 'folky' style. A lot of related melodic material is then presented before the tune Ding-dong merrily on high is heard. After another episode of previously used music In dulci jubilo reappears in a joyful conclusion to the piece.
