Air and Allegro - Sandy Feldstein
Here's a lovely concert piece that will bring out the best in your young players. The dotted quarter-eighth note rhythmic pattern is tastefully featured and reinforces what has been taught in the lesson, while the tempo change between the andante and allegro sections makes this easy selection feel very sophisticated. Each section of the band has a chance to play on its own, as well as part of the full band. (Grade 1---Correlates with the Yamaha Band Student, Book 1, Page 18)

Dream, Imagine, Live - Larry Clark
The inspiration for this piece comes from one of Henry David Thoreau's most famous quotes - Go confidently in the direction of your dreams! Live the life you've imagined. It was Thoreau's vision that we contemplate a simpler life and be deep thinkers about what we want our lives to be. The piece is divided into three distinct sections based on the same three-note motive. The first section is intense and bold, the second is introspective and lyrical and the third is dance-like, almost reminiscent of a Celtic folk song, in lilting in 6/8. This perfect contest or festival selection will highlight your band's strengths.

Take the Blues Train - Robert Longfield
What a great combination - a locomotive chugging out of the station, gradually gaining speed, and the great American 12-bar blues form. This fun piece is loaded with special effects including a second percussion part with anvil, triangle, and suspended cymbal to simulate the sound of the train. The band adds a shhh to help generate more steam and excitement. A great crowd-pleaser!

£135.50JAD-A-DAJ - Carlos Pellicer
The name 'JAD-A-DAJ' comes from a combination of several compositional resources, hence the subtitle 'eclectic dialogues for band'. The music responds to a pure work of analysis and more specifically to the search to exploit contrasts in the wide range of sounds provided by the wind instruments and percussion. After stopovers in the Neapolitan scale Mayor and trying to obtain quarters for chords using all notes of that scale, I got a chord in which the interval appears completely symmetrical: it is what some composers have called 'closed cycle of fourths'.JAD-A-DAJ received a 2 Premio at the Italian Concorso Internazionale di Composizione originale per banda 2009.

£168.50Grand Serenade - P.D.Q. Bach
Thanks to the untiring editor Peter Schickele, who has rendered the work now playable by modern concert band, audiences can now marvel at the misbegotten meanderings offer. Bach and shake their collective heads, wondering "What was he thinking?" Trying to realize the composer's intentions is a waste of time, since he probably didn't have any. On the other hand, rehearsing the music well does seem advisable, so that when the inevitable critical backlash develops, the performing organization can justly claim that it wasn't their fault.

Reflaxo e dana (Reflection and Dance) - Lissa Fleming May
Teaching improvisational techniques is easily explained in this new Brazilian-style work. An open section of the piece gives the director choices about who should play what part (i.e. bass line, melody, harmony, solos - all written in each individual part), and when to play. This excellent teaching tool is also great for concerts or festival programming.

Calypso la Rondo - Elliot Del Borgo
The simple melody and harmony creates a background for your percussionists to show off on a variety of instruments. What makes this piece so unique is that the wind parts are involved, serving a more important role than accompaniment. A great way to feature percussion while providing plenty of teaching opportunities for the winds as well.
