Cowboy Suite Wind Band Set (Score & Parts)

In the tripartite 'Cowboy Suite' Alan Laken takes us to the Wild West, the domain of cowboys, indians, trappers and other fortune hunters. Around 1890 the west coast of America was reached, which in effect meant the end of the Wild West. Its stories, however, survived and have been a source of inspiration for many books, films, and, of course, music. Some characters, such as Jesse James, Billy the Kid, and Buffalo Bill are forever linked to these tales. In the 'Cowboy Suite' we first hear the 'Hoedown'. At the end of an exhausting workday the labourers used to lay down their tools, among others the 'hoes' and spontaneously began to play music on the instruments which they then possessed (guitars, fiddles, and banjos) and to dance. After being jolted on the 'Wagon Trail' we reach the third part, the 'Cowboy Roundup'. In this last part it becomes clear that as a cattle driver it is imperative to stay firmly seated in the saddle. As the cattle are rounded up, i.e. driven together, spectacular things happen. 04:45

From Ashes to Glory - Otto M. Schwarz

Good times and bad times - we often picture them in shades of either somber black and white or vibrant color. Beautiful landscapes, tranquil villages, places brimming with peace and harmony - yet, in an instant, they can fall prey to the flames. Joy sinks into sorrow, but with every end comes a new beginning. From the ashes, something new arises, like a phoenix reborn. This has always been the way, the eternal circle of life that envelops our world.Imagine a serene landscape nestled in the mountains. Cows graze peacefully on alpine pastures, the sky stretches endlessly in a deep blue, and the warm spring sun casts its golden glow over the earth. From a hillside, we gaze down upon the village below, where quiet and peace reign. It is a place that carries the breath of time within its essence. But then, as if in a dream, the colors fade. Black and white take the stage, and we find ourselves transported 80 years into the past: it is April 20, 1943. The shadows of World War II have reached even St. Jakob am Arlberg. The swastika flag hangs heavily over the village square, while many of the village's men are away, serving on the front lines. On this day, Adolf Hitler's birthday, tragedy unfolds. A fire ignites - small at first, but fed by wind and timber, it grows into an unstoppable inferno. The flames hungrily consume house after house, and finally, they reach the village's beating heart: the church. Alarms echo through the streets, panic spreads like the fire itself, and the villagers fight desperately against the searing heat. Yet, despite their efforts, the steeple, which once rang out time for the village, collapses, and the church burns to its very foundations. The village is wounded, its people left amidst the ruins of their lives. But amid the ashes and despair, the true strength of the community emerges. Shoulder to shoulder, hand in hand, they come together to rebuild what seemed irretrievably lost.Gradually, color returns to the images. The wounds begin to heal, tears dry, and life blooms anew. The village rises again, radiant with hope and the resilience born from its darkest hours. For this is the cycle of life: from pain grows strength, and from the ashes of the past, the future is born - again and again.

    Jungle - Thomas Doss

In this fascinating piece we experience an exciting adventure in the jungle. The entrance into the "green hell" turns out to be very dangerous with wild monkeys and the roaring of elephants accompanying our way through the dark forest. There seems to be something lurking behind every tree and all of a sudden, a horde of savage cannibals appears. A wild hunt sets off and we escape at the last second by jumping from a cliff into the savage water below. Exotic birds welcome us in a new landscape and from somewhere in the distance we can hear a bamboo flute playing. This is a journey of no return.... The effects (elephants, wild monkeys, exotic birds and rain) should be producedwith much creativity - individual ideas are always desirable and welcome.

Queen of the Dolomites - Jacob de Haan

The introductory theme of this composition echoes the majestic size of the mountains that are visible from the picture-postcard Cortina d'Ampezzo--the socalled "Queen of the Dolomites". Then we hear a lyrical theme, in which we feel the peacefulness of the surrounding countryside. We can even hear the hustle and bustle of the popular ski resort, before the two opening themes return in reverse order to bring this musical sight-seeing excursion to a close.

Elements of Nature - Hermann Pallhuber

Earth - Fire - Water - Air: According to the four element theory of temperaments, earth, fire, air and water are the building blocks of the universe. Without them, life would not exist. They shape our view of the world around us, affect our thoughts and guide our feelings. Classifying our cosmos according to the four elements is probably one of the oldest principles of mankind, dating back to the ancient Greeks, and maybe even before them. While we know more about the elements and atoms, these four are still deeply embedded inthe human psyche. According to ancient Greek philosophers, each of the four elements has its own particular attributes. All other substances in nature aresaid to have emerged from these elements and can be broken down into them. All creatures, including human beings, contain a mixture of these four elements, which shape their senses. The elements are even able to balance out the body and the soul. This suite, Elements of Nature, is in four movements, each corresponding to one of the elements.Dances of Fire: Savage, occult, dangerous - Fire signifies the will of man.The Circle of Water: Flowingly, endless, mighty - Water sums up the feelings of human beings.Planet Earth: Structured, material, fertile - Earth stands for the awareness of the self.Air - The Spirit of Life: Stirring, altering, sensual - Air signifies human intellect.Elements of Nature contains a main theme that combines the female elements (earth and water) with the male elements (fire and air). The four movements are also linked to each other by their motifs. A majestic prologue and an epilogue frame the suite.

Of Shepherds and Kings (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Wiffin, Rob

This salsa is a not-too-serious look at the shepherds and kings at the Christmas nativity scene. The shepherds are represented by the carol While Shepherds watched their flocks by night, appearing here in a minor key. They are a rather earthy crew as opposed to the more refined kings with their carol We Three Kings of Orient. At one point the shepherds try to show that they should not be underestimated with their allusion to Henry Purcell's song Nymphs and Shepherds but the arguments between the two groups continue to the very end.Technically the piece is not that difficult but it needs the appropriate rhythmic feel. There are several add-on latin percussion parts which are not essential but will add to the spirit of the music if you have the players available.Duration: 3.30

Amazonia (Concert Band - Score and Pars) - Van der Roost, Jan

This major concert work consists of five movements:1st movement: La Laguna del Shimbe. Situated high up in the Andes mountains in Northern Peru are the Huaringas, a group of lagoons in isolated and mysterious surroundings. The water has healing powers and for centuries traditional healers have settled there in small villages. From far the sick come to the Huaringas to be treated in nightly rituals, in which the hallucinating juice of the San Pedro cactus gives the prophet a look inside his patient. The biggest lagoon is the "Laguna del Shimbe", one of the countless wells of the immense Amazon stream.2nd movement: Los Aguarunas. Further downstream in Northern Peru we come across the rain tribe of Los Aguarunas. It's a proud, beautiful and independent race, which has never succumbed to domination, not even from the Incas. They live from everything the forest has to offer: fish, fruit, plants... They also grow some crops and live as semi-nomads. They take their fate into their own hands and after having made contact with modern civilisation, they have integrated new elements into their lives without betraying their own ways.3rd movement: Mekaron. Mekaron is an Indian word meaning "picture", "soul", "essence". The Indians are the original inhabitants of the Amazon region. They either live in one place as a group or move around a large region. They all have their own political system, their own language and an intense social life. At the same time they are master of music and medicine. "Everywhere the white man goes, he leaves a wilderness behind him", wrote the North American Indian leader Seatl in 1885. As a result of these contacts with the whites, the disruption of most Indian societies began. (In this century alone, 80 tribes have vanished completely).4th movement: Ktuaj. This is the name of the initiating ceremony of the Krah tribe in the Brazilian state of Goias, in which young boys and girls enter adult life. They are cleansed with water, painted with red paint and covered with feathers, after which the ritual dance holds the entire tribe spell-bound.5th movement: Paulino Faiakan. In 1988 the Indian chiefs Faiakan and Raoni Kaiapo came to Europe to protest against the building of the Altamira dam in Brazil. As a result of the dam the Indians would be driven from their traditional land and enormous artificial would be created. The project was supported financially by, amongst others, the European Community. In February 1989 the Indian tribes around Altamira held a protest march for the first time in their history together. Amongst other things they paid tribute tot Chico Mendez, who, murdered in 1988, was the leader of the rubber syndicate and a fierce opponent of the destruction of the Brazilian rain forest. Brazilian and world opinion was awakened. The building of the dam was, albeit temporarily, stopped.Duration: 12:30
