Celtic Scents is an amazing suite of wonderful musical scents (wildflowers, herbs, and trees) unified by the brilliant imagination of world-renowned teacher, performer and composer Kazimierz Machala, and the familiar sounds of Celtic folk music. This completely original work of seven movements is reminiscent of Grainger'sLincolnshire Posy, including a very creative and enjoyable harmonic palette. The composition requires a full wind band and takes advantage of colorful orchestration to link each movement more closely to the scent it represents. While Machala composed Celtic Scents originally for orchestra, he has carefully and artistically re-orchestrated the work for the modern wind band. It is not entirely sure where the melody originates that forms the basis for Norwegian Overture. Most sources point in the direction of a certain J.H. Nebelong in about 1881. It is also possible that he was the first to note down this traditional melody and put his name to it.The lyrics are by a certain A.H. Brorson and were set to the music at a later date. The original title is "store hvide flok", which means "the big white herd". Several composers have used this theme, including Edvard Grieg and the Danish Carl Nielsen.

Farewell Song has been taken from Der Trompetervon Sckingen by Victor E. Nessler (1841-1890). Thisopera tells the sentimental story of a plain musicianwho is eventually allowed to marry the daughter ofa baron. From the first performance in 1884, thisopera was well liked - not so much because of thestory but because of its musical features. Impressivetrumpet solos, drinking songs and dance scenes werethe ingredients that enthralled audiences throughoutEurope. Today, only the farewell song called JungWerner's Abschied, also known as Beht' dich Gott,has remained an absolute winner. Wil van der Beekhas written a fine arrangement of this entitledFarewell Song. He felt itwas appropriate to entrustthe melody of this song, originally written for tenorvoice, to the baritone or euphonium.
