Butterflys Ball - Ryan Fraley
This compelling work incorporates elements of mystery and intrigue in a whirlwind of sounds, colors, and textures. Written in a quick 3/4 time, this engaging composition uses an attractive harmonic language, expressive melodic lines, and clever orchestrations to invoke the fairy-tale imagery of Robert Louis Stevenson's poetry in A Child's Garden of Verses. The playful nature of the piece moves between a lilting quality and a more lyrical expressive nature. Wonderful writing and an excellent change of pace for any concert, especially for directors looking for a lighter work with substantial quality. (3:52)

Edgar - Giacomo Puccini
Edgar was Giacomo Puccini's second opera but despite numerous changes and adaptations, it was never able to match the success enjoyed by his first opera Le Villi. Puccini himself was never completely satisfied with the opera either. It was not until the 1970's, after the first release of a recording of the work, that Edgar gained in popularity and recognition. Johan de Meij has created this fabulous concert band arrangement of this much under-performed work.

A Baroque Triptych
In his own distinctive style, Robert van Beringen has composed a very unique fantasy on three themes by the famous Baroque composers Johann Sebastian Bach and George Friedrich Hndel. Van Beringen used Bach's chorale Brich an, o schnes Morgenlicht ('Break forth, O Beauteous Heavenly Light') from his Christmas Oratorio and the recitative Behold, a Virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Emmanuel, God with Us from Hndel's Messiah. A perfect way to say Merry Christmas in music!
