Sleepers, Wake - Johann Sebastian Bach
This enchanting melody is from the fourth movement of Bach's Cantata 140 which was composed in 1731 using the parable of the wise and foolish virgins as the text. The work is beautiful in its simplicity with only three melodic lines, demonstratingBach's counterpoint at its best. For greatest effect it is suggested that the trumpets and trombones play behind the band or to the right and left of the stage.

Take Off - Daniel Weinberger
You take your place in an aeroplane and wait expectantly for the motors to spark into life and for the plane to taxi onto the runway. Then it's full throttle and with a roar of the engines you leave everything behind you. Below, the world is in miniature, you thrill at the freedom of flying high and take in the spectacular drama of the clouds. It's moments such as these that Daniel Weinberger has captured in music in Take Off.

In 1976, Mike Batt wrote Bright Eyes especially for Art Garfunkel, of the duo Simon & Garfunkel, who sang it as the title song of the animated film Watership Down. At that time no one could guess at the global success that this classicmelancholy yet wonderful song would enjoy. 35 years, numerous chart appearances, cover versions and awards later, here's Roland Kernen's sensitive arrangement for a performance to fall in love with all over again!

Mah Na, Mah Na
The Italian film music composer Piero Umiliani originally composed Mah Na Mah Na in 1968 for the soundtrack of the Swedish movie Sweden - Heaven or Hell. However the piece only became a hit in the 1970s, when Jim Henson used the catchy melody in his children's TV series The Muppet Show and Sesame Street. Stefan Schwalgin has produced this excellent version to give baritone saxophonists, who sometimes feel left out by the band's repertoire, a platform for their soloistic development. This gem is full of little musical surprises and will hold a special place in your bands repertoire.

A Tamworth Tapestry (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Wiffin, Rob
A Tamworth Tapestry was commissioned by the Tamworth Wind Band who gave the first performance in Fazeley, Tamworth, on 27 Apr 2024. In composing it I drew on aspects of Tamworth starting with a short malicious outburst to depict the warlike history of the town's Norman castle. From there the music moves into a slow-flowing minor key movement entitled River Tame. The Celtic derivation of the word Tame means dark and slow-moving. The suite ends with a saltarello - Tomsaete. The Tomsaete were an Anglo-Saxon tribe who lived in the valley of the River Tame and remained around Tamworth throughout the duration of the Kingdom of Mercia. There is also a play on words with the band's conductor - Tom Sears. I combined the saltarello with some allusions to various other Tamworth references including Kingsbury Water Park, Drayton Manor Theme Park, Tamworth Pigs and even a reference to the Robin Reliant!Duration: 6.15

Galloping Home (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - King, Denis - Longhurst, Clive
Galloping Home is the name of the theme tune to the popular 1970's TV programme, 'The Adventures of Black Beauty'. The children's show ran between September 1972 to March 1973 and became a 'must watch' in the UK and the USA. It is hoped that this transcription will evoke many happy memories for those who used to watch it and be enjoyed by those who are not so familiar.

American Prelude (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - De Meij, Johan
American Prelude was commissioned by the United States Marine Band "The President's Own" and was composed in honour of the retirement of Colonel Jason K. Fettig, the 28th Director of the USMB. This short and energetic work features subtle hints to two of my favourite American composers, Aaron Copland and John Williams. The performance at Colonel Fettig's final concert with the Marine Band was the world premiere, given at the annual Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago, Illinois on December 20st, 2023.Duration: 4.15
