£89.99Distant Hymns - Greg Sanders
Distant Hymns is the third movement from the composer's work Dreams and Faith (The Solomon Valley Anthology). The American Composers Alliance commissioned the work for their Continental Harmony Project. In the late 1880s and early 1900s, many of the inhabitants of the Solomon River area in northern Kansas meticulously documented their lives in the vast expanse of the Kansas prairie in writings in their personal diaries. Several writers recorded an unusual phenomenon where the wind often carried sounds over the open prairie and fields with no visible sound source. An example of this display was sometimes the presence of music, often church hymns, carried with the wind from assumed distant churches that were frequently not there. The melodies could be heard constantly changing in volume and sound as the winds continuously changed directions. Distant Hymns is a musical representation of this experience, where a simple hymn tune is handed to and integrated between different groups of instruments. Ebbing frequently, the music varies in loudness and softness as the melody moves freely upon the wind.

£84.99Variations on a Theme by Elgar - Árpád Balázs
In rpd Balzs's diverse and varied oeuvre, works for wind orchestra play a prominent role alongside choral music. He composed the Elgar Variations in 2022 on the theme of one of Edward Elgar's (1857-1934) short early works (Love's Greetings, 1888). As rpd Balzs writes ''The theme I used as the starting point for my work may already be considered a variation, since I 'peeled off' the dense ornamentation and the tonicisations from it, and what remained was the melody, beautiful in its own place. What come back from time to time from the theme in the variations are: the arched structure, the double peak point, and mostly the major sixth leaping downwards, then upwards. The modest, transparent orchestration, which then is amplified at the repetition of the theme is also a defining feature. There is a personal family secret hidden in the third variation: a late compliment to a loyal spouse for the past half century... The closing variation is calm and quiet - similarly to the chorale-like slow movement in Bla Bartk's 3rd Piano Concerto. It is like a message from an old composer to the Future.'' The Elgar Variations together with the Concertino (1992, Z. 14909) and the Rhapsody (2015-2021, Z. 15167) form an ambitious, emotionally wide-range trilogy for a concert band.

From letter B, the melody is carried by horn and trombone with a majestic character.Ensure good precision in the accompaniment. From letter C, the style is Latin-inspired, resembling Samba. Alternative percussion solutions are possible here.From letter D, there is a pizzicato effect in 8th-notes, with sonorous melodic lines. The piece was commissioned by the Norwegian Band Federation Hordaland and conductor Arvid Anthun for the 40th anniversary of Hordaland Youth Band in 2021. The piece is dedicated to Arvid Anthun.Several of our collaborations have focused on arranging and performing Norwegian folk music. This includes projects such as the one Manger Musikklag undertook in the late 90s, concerts, and recording sessions with Jlster Musikklag alongside the fiddler Sigmund Eiks, and now, for the anniversary concert of Hordaland Youth Band.Arvid desired folk music in a modern style. We discussed, among other things, Valter Aamodt's "Hordarapsodi," and he mentioned my Norwegian Dance, a funky piece where I incorporate a folk tune as a crucial element. Aamodt uses the melody "Eg rodde meg ut," or "Strilevise," as it is also known, in his rhapsody.The concept for Strilefunk was therefore to utilize one of the melodies Aamodt had used and additionally draw on the rhythmic experiences that we, as modern band musicians, bring from other genres.Torstein Aagaard-Nilsen

FORGOTTEN DREAMS was completed on May 28, 1954. The first performance was a few days later on June 2nd during a recording session for Delta Records in New York, at which time Leroy Anderson performed the piano solo himself. Although the main theme of FORGOTTEN DREAMS was intended to be played on the piano (and with simplicity), the composer_x001A_s band edition of the piece allowed for a solo flute to substitute (Play only in absence of Piano). It is also suggested the melody might be beautifully rendered on vibraphone due to the sustaining quality of that instrument. In any event, this charmingly romantic miniature will delight audiences whenever it is performed. This edition includes a full score.

This piece consists of 2 parts. After an explosive introduction, theme A begins on a rock rhythm. The melody as well as the harmonic sequence certainly recalls things already heard like an old friend... It is a lively and energetic image of friendship. Theme B, on the other hand, is calmer. It is a nostalgic side of friendship represented here. The song ends with the same motif as the introduction.

Nimrod is the name given to the ninth and best-known variation inEdward Elgar's Enigma Variations, an orchestral work of 14 variations on an original theme composed between 1898 and 1899. Each variation is also a portrait of one of 14 members of Elgar's family and circle of friends. A celebrated work, Nimrod is a portrait of Augustus Johannes Jaeger, who in addition to being his best friend was also Elgar's editor.The variations all represent a series of portraits and as such are entitled with a name or initials that identify the person. Biblically, Nimrod is a great hunter of the Old Testament, thus representing his muse through a play on words: Jger in German means 'hunter'. The melody appears to represent a nocturnal stroll during which the two discuss Ludwig van Beethoven's slow movements; the first eight bars, in fact, recall the beginning of the second movement of the Pathtique Piano Sonata.An arrangement of classical music signed by Franco Cesarini which stands out for its skilful and careful instrumentation.
