French Chanson, arranged by Steven J. Pyter, is a rousing arrangement of a famous 16th-century choral work. The tuneful Renaissance art song tells a light-hearted story of gossip and rumor, with lyrics roughly translating to "I will tell you!" The story centers around a jealous husband suspicious of his beautiful wife. Like opera, the piece employs dramatic and whimsical characteristics to tell a passionate story. This arrangement alternates between tutti statements and short interludes to feature each instrument family in the band---woodwinds, brass, and percussion. The 330-meter-tall Eiffel Tower is one of the most famous landmarks in the world. Originally built as a temporary structure for the 1889 World's Fair, it was meant to symbolize the technological and industrial advancements of the 19th century. Construction began in 1887 and was completed in 1889, just in time for the fair, which celebrated the 100th anniversary of the French Revolution. Over two years, around 300 workers assembled the 18,038 iron pieces.Until the 1930s, the Eiffel Tower, standing at 330 meters, was the tallest structure in the world and was considered a triumph of engineering. With its striking and controversial design, the Eiffel Tower broke with architectural traditions and set new standards for the use of metal structures. However, its creation was accompanied by heated debates. Many artists and intellectuals, including Charles Gounod and Alexandre Dumas, criticized the "gigantic skeleton" as unaesthetic and a threat to the Parisian skyline. Some even called for the tower to be torn down after the World's Fair.But the Eiffel Tower survived these objections and developed into a symbol not only for Paris but for all of France. Its structure was not only aesthetically significant but also practical: during World War I, it played a crucial role in radio transmission, as an antenna on its top was key to French communication. This functional use helped prevent its demolition.Today, the Eiffel Tower is a global symbol of innovation, modernity, and French culture. At major events, such as the 2024 Olympic Games, it took again center stage, attracting millions of visitors every year. Its elegance and the spectacular view from its platforms make it an unforgettable experience. Since its construction, the Eiffel Tower has welcomed more than 300 million visitors, making it one of the most visited structures in the world.

The piece was commissioned by the Norwegian Band Federation Hordaland and conductor Arvid Anthun for the 40th anniversary of Hordaland Youth Band in 2021. The piece is dedicated to Arvid Anthun.Several of our collaborations have focused on arranging and performing Norwegian folk music. This includes projects such as the one Manger Musikklag undertook in the late 90s, concerts, and recording sessions with Jlster Musikklag alongside the fiddler Sigmund Eiks, and now, for the anniversary concert of Hordaland Youth Band.Arvid desired folk music in a modern style. We discussed, among other things, Valter Aamodt's "Hordarapsodi," and he mentioned my Norwegian Dance, a funky piece where I incorporate a folk tune as a crucial element. Aamodt uses the melody "Eg rodde meg ut," or "Strilevise," as it is also known, in his rhapsody.The concept for Strilefunk was therefore to utilize one of the melodies Aamodt had used and additionally draw on the rhythmic experiences that we, as modern band musicians, bring from other genres.Torstein Aagaard-Nilsen

Mneskin is an Italian rock band that first set foot on the international stage in 2021, when it won the 65th Eurovision Song Contest with Zitti e buoni. 2021 was an excellent year for the group in more ways than one, since they were also declared best rock band at the MTV European Music Awards. More successes followed: their cover of the Four Seasons song Beggin' became a worldwide hit and even reached the American Billboard Hot 100, as well as the global Spotify hit list. The band's name was definitively established with songs like I Wanna Be Your Slave, The Loneliest and Supermodel. Markus Schenk has brought together all of these hits in a fantastic pop-rock medley for concert band. Sturdy music that is unsuitable for softies, but it will certainly go down well with the audience!
