Commissioned to commemorate its 20th anniversary season, this work was written for the Nebraska Wind Symphony, Omahas community band, in 1997. It is in traditional overture form, with a bold introductory theme in the horns answered by the trumpets. The material that follows presents the main theme in solo voices followed by the entire band. Contrasting material follows, leading to a recapitulation and eventually to a jubilant coda. While not intentionally programmatic, the title of the work does reflect the bands geographic location.

Incandescent Sky - Robert Sheldon
This sparkling concert overture commemorates the 30th anniversary of the First Coast Wind Symphony. An opening majestic fanfare leads to a buoyant main theme in 12/8 time. A lyrical contrasting section is as rich in melodic content as it is passion. The piece, being in a modified rondo form restates a variation of the main theme before returning to the opening fanfare and a rousing conclusion.

Lincoln Portrait was commissioned by Andre Kostelanetz for the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra in 1942. A stirring tribute to an eminent American, it includes fragments of songs from the Civil War era, sweeping original themes, anda narration drawn from Lincoln's own words.
