Monsters (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Doss, Thomas
This piece for youth band will frighten not only the audience but the players also! There are rumours of musicians disappearing during the rehearsals of this piece, never to be found... It is said, however, that singing loudly in the vocal passages provides protection from nasty surprises. The Last Friend of Napoleon (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Brosse, Dirk
The Last Friend of Napoleon is based on a true piece of Dutch history. In October 1813, when Napoleon was beaten after his unsuccessful Russian campaign, the French withdrew from the Netherlands. At the beginning of 1814, the whole country had been liberated except for the town of Delfzijl, still occupied by French troops. This programmatic work is about political and military stubbornness, chasing dreams, and about love always following its own unequalled way. Being one of the most acknowledged composers of today, Dirk Brosse has created an epic work that depicts a dramatic story, using the full range of the symphonic band resulting in challenging brass passages, a wide range of percussion and a lot of strong, beautiful and melodic material.Duration: 20.00

Fiesta (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Anderson, Keiron
This piece is a celebration and can be played at any happy occasion. It was written to celebrate 30 years of the Nottingham Symphonic Wind Orchestra in 2017. The music grows from syncopated rhythms and a five note motif which is use to form melody and chords. There is a strong rhythmic undercurrent in percussion and in the interplay between sections. The motif is clearly heard in the flutes and clarinets in an imitative section before the key changes to form a second theme on the oboe then the flute. These secondary themes are still formed from the original motif before the music recapitulates the multi time signatures from earlier in the piece. The relentless pace drives the music to a flourish of upper woodwind and a syncopated brass coda. Duration: 4.30

Toccata "Atalanta" (Windependence Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Bonelli, Aurelio - Hanson, Shelley
Woodwind and percussion players usually are unfamiliar with the antiphonal brass choir tradition. I made this modern, more easily readable version of Bonelli's classic 1600 Toccata for flexible wind ensemble with optional percussion, so that as few as 8 players up to full symphonic band could play in this style. I've used it as a dramatic concert opener, with the second, smaller group positioned behind the audience. ~ Shelley Hanson

A Golden Jubilation (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Yagisawa, Satoshi
This work was composed as a commission by the Aikodai Meiden High School Symphonic Band, for the 50th anniversary of their annual concert; the title A Golden Jubilation is a reference to this. The close friendship between Hiroki Ito, the conductor of the band, and Satoshi Yagisawa resulted in this brilliant and exhilarating fanfare of approximately two minutes in length; the piece is ideal to use as a concert opener. The original composition was arranged for an extremely wide range of instruments and a band of 200 musicians, including a separate 'banda', harp and a variety of special instruments. This version has been rescored for standard band instrumentation by the composer himself. Duration: 2.20
