"Brittern" was written for my good friend, Brit Johnsrud to her Solo-CD recording "Light Blue Outfit". Brit is a former hornist with the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra and works today with the professional Navy Band in Bergen. This solo piece is inspired by traditional, Norwegian folk music. The slurs of the music it intended to make character to the "Halling" (A traditional Norwegian dance). The music also include trills, but for these the soloist may vary and decide where to play these. The tempo are approx. quarter note=88. Chords appears at letter E in solo part. This part of the piece may be improvised. If improvised, please omit some of the parts (are marked with May beomitted).

The German composer Woldemar Bargiel was the half-brother of Clara Schumann and composed a significant amount of chamber music. He was supported by fellow composers Robert Schumann and Johannes Brahms. His Adagio, opus 38 for cello and orchestra is an eloquently beautiful solo work and makes a very attractive solo feature for euphonium with wind accompaniment. This setting was premiered with euphonium soloist Misa Meade accompanied by the Loyola University Concert Band.

Jan Eggum released "Myrsnipa" on the album "Hjerteknuser", which was released in 2007. The text is a variant of the folk tale with the moral "everyone likes their own children best and has for many years been one of Eggum's regular encores at concerts.The arrangement is attempted to stay true to Eggum's version and has retained its somewhat delicate character in order to support the text as much as possible. Although the arrangement is written for vocal soloist, it also works great with a solo instrument instead, and you can also choose whether you want a guitar or not, to keep it even more true to the original recording.The arrangement requires good balance and intonation, but will be a nice part of the concert repertoire the audience is guaranteed to recognize.

Florence Price was an American classical composer, pianist, organist and music teacher. She is noted as the first African-American woman to be recognised as a symphonic composer, and the first to have a composition played by a major orchestra. Price composed over 300 works: four symphonies, four concertos, as well as choral works, art songs, chamber music and music for solo instruments. In 2009, a substantial collection of her works and papers that had been previously considered lost was found in her abandoned summer home. Amongst these was this delightful work, Adoration, which had been composed in the 1950s for organ. According to IMSLP.org, the piece "failed to meet notice or renewal requirements to secure statutory copyright with no 'restoration' under the GATT amendments" and therefore is in the public domain. A version for violin and piano by Elaine Fine has become popular. This setting for trumpet soloist with wind band has been arranged by John Hanchett. £63.58Caprice (Euphonium Solo with Concert Band) Andrew Batterham
VIEW SCORE PDF Caprice was written for Matthew van Emmerik, to showcase his virtuosity in an engaging piece of concert music. The work is in theme and variation form, with the primary material being the theme from the last of Paganini's Ventiquattro Capricci per violino solo, a collection of 24 caprices for solo violin. This theme has been the inspiration for similar works by many composers since it was first published, including Liszt, Brahms, Rachmaninov, Benny Goodman and Andrew Lloyd Webber. In this work, the famous theme is treated to a more contemporary approach. The first variation, Capricious, relies on motor rhythms and jagged dialogues between the soloist and the band. It is couched in an organic scale reminiscent of the Phrygian mode. The second variation, Sad, is in direct contrast, acting as a traditional ballad and allowing the soloist to explore the expressive side of the instrument. The third variation, Energetic, is a micro set of variations in itself, designed to display the soloist's innovative technique and stamina. Each section is more challenging than the last, until the work concludes with a whirlwind dance at breakneck speed. Like all of Batterham's recent work, the musical language of Caprice draws upon classical, jazz, funk and ska elements to create a unique sound where anything can happen, and probably will.
