Commissioned by Kenneth Bell, principal flute of the Central Band of the Royal Air Force, this delightful work is challenging but approachable and the perfect vehicle for your star flautist! (Grade 5) Performance time 13'31". "Good flautists will find this a good piece to add to their repertoires, as it presents different challenges to the standard solo fare. The solo line is particularly well set against the band as it rarely travels to the lower register of the flute. The work opens with an extended section of lyricism followed by skittish dance. The central ''andante con moto'' is particularly delicate before the final section heads off and ends in a thoroughly unexpected conclusion!" Winds Magazine (Recorded on QPRM129D VENETIAN SPELLS, Central Band of the Royal Air Force)
MELTING THE ICE is a lilting solo for the young alto saxophone player. While not taxing technically, it will require good breath control to achieve a nice flow in the solo part. Although it has a slow 'feel' to it, be careful not to play it too slowly.
NAPOLI Variations on a Neopolitan Song (Cornet Solo with Intermediate Concert Band) - Hunsberger, Donald
Born in Germany, Hermann Bellstedt immigrated to America in 1867, where his family settled in Cincinnati. A prodigy on the cornet, he played with Patrick Gilmore as cornet soloist and assistant to the famous Ben Bolt, and, in 1904, joined the Sousa Band, playing alongside Walter Rogers and Herbert L. Clarke. Bellstedt's variations on Napoli feature the popular Neopolitan song "Finiculi, Finicula" (composed by Luigi Denza in 1880) that celebrated the funicular railway built up the side of Mt. Vesuvius in 1880. Other popular Amalfi Coast songs include "'O Solo Mio" and "Torna a Sorriento." A variety of solo textures, whimsical to intense, are demonstrated by this Donald Hunsberger arrangement dedicated to Wynton Marsalis as a part of the "Carnaval" project. A grandiose opportunity to feature your cornet or trumpet soloist! (5:45)
For flute, oboe, clarinet, alto saxophone, bassoon, bass clarinet, trumpet or euphonium solo with band accompaniment. This work marks yet another addition to Otto M. Schwarz's catalogue of solo repertoire and will be especially welcome due to the rarity of solos for flugel horn! Simple improvisations complement the piece, which contains a catchy tune that will stay with anyone who plays or listens to the work. The solo part is also available in an edition with piano accompaniment (1961-13-401 M). 05:00

The effective use of solo percussion, combined with an elegant orchestration, brought a warm reception at the premiere of this work from Satoshi Yagisawa's 'Concertino Series'. Yagisawa's style is usually considered as rather dramatic, however, in this piece he adds a whole new dimension to his compositional skills.Estimated delivery 10-12 days
