£229.99Sinfonietta no. 1 - Johan de Meij
Sinfonietta No. 1 was originally written for brass band, commissioned by the Dutch National Championships 2011 in Groningen. It also served as the test piece for the Swiss National Championships 2011 in Montreux, Switzerland. In 2012, Johan de Meij created this version for wind orchestra.Unlike most of Johan de Meij's compositions, Sinfonietta No. 1 is an abstract, non-programmatic work. It consists of three movements, in which the thematic material of the opening measures - an upward fifth jump - returns in various shapes and forms throughout the piece. The slow middle section features solo passages by cello, English horn and bassoon, all starting with thesame fifth jump. The final movement presents an Elgar-like march theme, interspersed with quotes from the second movement, and ending with the opening theme of movement I.

£194.99Euphonium Concerto II - Philip Sparke
The original concept for this work was a suite of short movements, each with its own character, but by the time the first movement was complete it was clear that a conventional three-movement format was going to work out better. The opening movement contains much syncopation and is almost rag-like in style. The slower second movement explores the unsurpassable ability of the euphonium to play lyrically, with a theme that is later taken up by the band whilst the soloist weaves a filigree descant. This leads straight into the third movement, which is almost bebop in style and shows off the jazzier capabilities of the euphonium. The concerto was composed for the virtuoso soloist,Steven Mead. A version for euphonium and piano is also available.

This work is based on Daniel Defoe's world-famous 1719 novel and with broad brushstrokes typifies the hero's life in four parts. The first part describes his life as a seaman. The second part is an impressive, stormy description of the shipwreck he falls victim to. The next covers his happy life with his friend Friday, which takes the form of a melodious hymn. Lastly, the fourth part describes the tense confrontation with the Cannibals and his return home.

In Caledonia, Oliver Waespi adapted three well-known Scottish folk songs into a rhapsodic suite for wind orchestra. The first, rather humorous song, The Devil Came Fiddling Through the Town, tells the story of a devil who, as he passes through the streets of the town, catches the tax inspector and carries him off, much to the delight of the inhabitants. The second song, Ye banks and braes, is gentle and melancholy and based partly on the folk song Hey, tuttie tattie. Oliver Waespi took a symphonic approach to the adaptation of these lovely songs, which makes this a unique and innovative suite that can be performed at a concert or contest. Theindividual parts can also be performed separately.

Commissioned by the Cabarrus All-County Middle School Band (Concord, North Carolina), this work was inspired by the composer's Irish heritage and the rich history of Ireland. With three main themes, this programmatic work openswith a peaceful sunrise with mist rising from the bog. The second theme describes the great hall of a majestic medieval castle, complete with vibrant colors and pageantry. Ireland is a multi-faceted country that has developed a popular and distinctive musical culture. The first movement of Dublin Pictures reflects Irish festivals where there is dancing and traditional beer flowing. More tranquil in its feel, the second movement illustrates the landscape that can be seen from the Ha'penny Bridge, a bridge that crosses the River Liffey in Dublin. This movement highlights the wide range of the orchestra's sound colours as the musicians' voices combine with the wind and percussion to accompany the soloist. The lively and joyful rhythms of the last movement take the listener to Temple Bar, the famous tourist quarter of the city, well knownfor its vibrant nightlife. The music's energy and virtuosic motifs are in contrast to the previous movement and provide a spirited and festive finale.Marc Jeanbourquin wrote this piece in three movements for Azimuts Brass in 2011. He then arranged it for Concert, Fanfare or Brass Band
