This new three movement work by the world renowned composer Philip Sparke is based on traditional folk songs, in particular popular children's songs, from Singapore.The first movement is based on Gelang Sipaku Gelang, a well-loved folksong which has become associated with the Geylang area and is a song about community spirit and people living together in harmony. The slower second movement uses Di-Tanjung Katong, a song which is popular with childrens' choirs and third the movement uses two traditional melodies - Lenggang Kangkung which tells of the graceful swaying of watercress in the rice paddy fields and Munnaeru Vaalibaa.Why not bring as little part of the orient to yourconcert with this exotic new work.

Antonio Vivaldi (1678-1741) stands, with Handel and J.S. Bach, as one of the titanic figures of late Baroque composition. Not only was he lauded as a composer of vocal and instrumental works both sacred and secular, he was without serious competition, the most prolific composer of his age. In addition to hundreds of vocal works, includingforty-nine operas, he composed five hundred concertos. The Four Seasons are probably the best known of his concerti with the second movement,Largo, portraying time spent by a roaring firelistening to the rain pounding against the window.This new arrangement for concert band retains allthe warmth of the original.

£194.99Euphonium Concerto II - Philip Sparke
The original concept for this work was a suite of short movements, each with its own character, but by the time the first movement was complete it was clear that a conventional three-movement format was going to work out better. The opening movement contains much syncopation and is almost rag-like in style. The slower second movement explores the unsurpassable ability of the euphonium to play lyrically, with a theme that is later taken up by the band whilst the soloist weaves a filigree descant. This leads straight into the third movement, which is almost bebop in style and shows off the jazzier capabilities of the euphonium. The concerto was composed for the virtuoso soloist,Steven Mead. A version for euphonium and piano is also available.

£256.99Clarinet Concerto - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Mozart originally wrote this concerto for a clarinet with an extended lower range, compared to the conventional instrument. As early as 1802, published versions appeared with registral changes, which made the concerto playable on instruments without the extra keys. When producing an edition for the conventional clarinet there are two choices to be made about the 'extra' notes - is it better to maintain the musical line, and hence transpose whole phrases or passages up an octave, rather than single notes, or is the chalumeau tone more important, in which case it may possibly be better to alter one or two notes to keep the correct octave. In this edition Philip Sparke has usually gonefor the former so the 'sequences' make musical sense, but have taken the second option in some places. This fantastic work will prove popular with soloist, band and audience alike.

Philip Sparke's Sinfonietta No. 4 is comprised of three parts that are played as an uninterrupted whole. The _x005F_x001F_first movement begins with a lyrical fugato passage, framing a brisker and more rhythmical middle section. The second movement is slower and contains a long and expressive euphonium solo. The third movement is a salute to the sponsor of this commission: various percussion instruments conjure up sounds reminiscent of a carpenter's workshop, accompanied by a unison orchestral passage in a scat style.

Philip Sparke selected two well-known marches from the region around Southern Belgium and Luxembourg as the basis for his March Celebration: after we hear an original march theme and second theme in the bass, extracts from the Hmmelsmarsh (Hammelmarsch) and the spirited Marsch der Ardennen-Jger, which has become a kind of unofficial national anthem in these parts. This festive march is rounded off with another appearance of Philip Sparke's original theme.

Marching Winds was commissioned as the set piece for the Youth Festival Singapore 2010, a competition for all the youth orchestras in Singapore. As the title indicates, it is written in the form of a march. The opening fanfare leads directly to the modal main theme. It is contrasted by a second, legato theme, which builds to the climax of the piece. The main theme makes an appearance again before the piece comes to a finish.

This arrangement includes four verses of the melody: the first in the form of canon; the second for brass; the third for woodwind and the fourth for the entire orchestra. The work opens with a stern fanfare in bare fifths, which leads to a cantabile theme introduced by alto saxophone. This builds to a climax and reintroduces the fanfare, which slowly evolves into the subsequent vivo. A perky tune emerges on flute, saxophone and trumpet, which, after a short bridge passage, leads to a contrasting melody on low clarinets and saxophones. After some development a true 'second subject' appears for the whole band. A recapitulation leads briefly back to the opening fanfare before the vivo returns to close the work in celebratory mood.
