Columbus is a brilliant and dynamic overture with a soft and melodious central passage. The composer was inspired by the European space laboratory Columbus that is part of the International Space Station. In this lab, hundreds of scientific experiments are carried out on a yearly basis. This work was commissioned by the Brass Band Bourgueillois, which was founded ten years ago and has since been a 'laboratory' of musical creativity. In response to the many positive reactions to this attractive work, the composer has now also produced a version for concert band.

Envisage brings across the contemplative feeling of a journey, drawing the performer and listener toward an inevitable outcome. The piece is written in a standard overture form with a strident A section contrasted by a gorgeous B section which shifts to a major key. Blaze of Glory - Robert Sheldon
This outstanding overture begins with a declamatory statement in the woodwinds. The heroic melody subsides to a softer section which still retains the energy of the piece. Severe funding cuts in 2015 had a huge impact on Austria's military bands. This piece is about the resurrection of these bands following a political decision in favour of the renowned military music organization structure in Austria. 'The Rise of the Phoenix' is an impressive piece, full of bright, colourful melodies and an incredible positive ambiance. There is a beautiful slow middle section with a touch of romance, leading to a spectacular maestoso finale in which you can hear a hint of a famous military signal (as also used in Von Supp's 'Light Cavalry Overture'). A positive and challenging piece full of joy and colour!
