As part of the year 2023, dedicated to Swiss composers, the Swiss Wind Band Association has commissioned Gauthier Dupertuis to write a new orchestration of the Overture in E-flat major by Stephan Jaeggi. Indeed, an update of the instrumentation was necessary for the interpretation of this work with modern orchestras.Therefore, the orchestration that Gauthier Dupertuis proposes and which he wanted to be faithful to the original while meeting current standards, will allow today's orchestras to performthis piece of classical-romantic inspiration.Stephan Jaeggi was a Swiss composer and conductor who was born into a large family in Fulenbach (Canton of Solothurn) in 1903. He began playing the clarinet at the age of 13, then studied music at the Basel Conservatory and attended his military training with the Swiss Army Band. Thereafter, he became the conductor of several wind orchestras. In this role, and also that of a composer, Stephan Jaeggi went on to achieve great success. His early death in 1957 put a premature end to Stephan Jaeggi's creative life. All the more reason why his work lives on with unbroken power to this day.

May your mountains rise into and above the clouds." - Edward AbbeyNotes from the Road was commissioned to Franco Cesarini by the music Federation of the Canton of Thurgau, Switzerland, as compulsory piece for the second category of the Canton Festival in 2023. The piece is written in the typical form of an Italian overture, with the sequence of veloce-lento-veloce tempi. Reflections on life and the street as its metaphor were the driving elements in composing this piece. The way represents a symbol characteristic to many cultures, so much so that the verb "to walk" or the word "path" indicate a way of being in life and of fulfilling oneself. "Making one's way" means affirming oneself; "Having a way" indicates one's own and personal approach. The road is the most beautiful metaphor of life: there is a departure, a destination, and in the middle lies a path that is sometimes winding, with challenges to overcome and directions to take.An introspective piece, an invitation to each of us to reflect on our own "path".

Wedding Dances - Daron Aric Hagen
A concert version of the dance music from the second act of the sensational opera for voices and wind ensemble by Daron Aric Hagen (see Overture above), this varied and colorful piece will be a brilliant addition to the program of a Grade for band. The music dramatically reflects the growing conflicts of the story (based on Othello) and climaxes with a powerful setting of the big tune associated with the idea of "crossing over" from Mexico to the U.S., and from Life to Death. As part of its 850th anniversary, the Swiss town of Reinach (Canton of Basel Country), commissioned Gauthier Dupertuis to produce an energetic and lively work for the town's concert band, the MG Konkordia Reinach, conducted by maestro Miguel Etchegoncelay. Reinach Jubilee follows the form of a miniature overture, characterised by an almost regular pulsation from the beginning to the end of the work. The first part is of a resolutely festive character, in contrast with a peaceful central part, gradually returning to the solemn and jubilant outbursts of the beginning of the work. A perfect piece to open your concert!
