Ljodgata - Torstein Aagaard-Nilsen
The old Norwegian name Ljodgata means the main road. This road (or path) has existed since the iron age. In 12 century christians walked from Oslo to Nidaros (Trondheim) to visit the Cathedral containing the tomb of King Olav the Holy. Part 1 The Tomb and the Church is a musical picture of religious activities in the area. The tomb of King Rakne, one of the largest graves in the northern Europa is now a monument in the area, even if Hovin Church has been a symbol of christianity sincethe 1400 century. Part 2 The Woods of Trandum Pictures the military acitivities that has been going on for more that 250 years. During the 2nd World War, an execution of innocent people took place in the woods. Part 3 Jetset Picture of the present.The international airport at Gardermoen has made the village Jessheim become a town. People now live moderne city lives.

Sverre Bergh (1915-1980) was a central character in the music scene in Bergen, both as a musical leader at "Den Nationale Scene" (theatre) and as a director for the "Festspillene" music festival. He was an arranger and pianist for the NorwegianBroadcasting Company (NRK), and wrote stage- and film scores as well as piano pieces. "Country-Folk in Town" is one movement from "Village Sketches". This small overture was written for the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra.

The symphonic work gives challenges for all instruments and is well suited to work with rhythm, intonation, sound and musicality.Percussion has a central role inthe piece with solo performances, and the beautiful middle part gives the band opportunity to demonstrate its ability to interpretation and musical understanding.Occurence is therefore well suited for competitions as well as concerts.

Balkan Blues is music from the musical Bergets Hjrta (the Heart of the Mountain), which was a cooperative production between Norrbotten Big Band and Norrbottens Teatern, 1997 in Lule in the north of Sweden.Balkan Blues is music whichrelates to the historical railway life in the beginning of the 20th century when the railroad, Ofotenbanan, between Kiruna in Sweden and Rombaksbotn in Norway was built.Balkan Blues is inspired by the fantastic and exciting life includingpeople from all over Europe trying to find their fortune in the village Rombaksbotn, in the venue of the railroad working site of the Ofotenbanan.

The two movements in this symphony have quite similar structure and length, and this is no coincidence. As a composer, I try to create two musical stories that comes from the same starting point and thought, but they sound and feel different. Music often describes something you cant say in words. The Title Go Far is a word play referring to what the players are going to (GO FAR!) and the musical inspiration from the TV-series Fargo (Mr. Wrench & Mr. Numbers). The piece is very groovy and especially the drum kit needs to lead the band and preferably sound like good, old John Bonham (drummer in the band Led Zeppelin). The melody is inspired by cool Native Americans and the band really needs to bring their primal roar! The piece was written for Eikanger-Bjrsvik Musikklag and their annual summer band camp Feriespel in 2017.

This work was commissioned by Midtun Skoles Musikkorps (Bergen) and their conductor Christian Breistein. This is one of the best school bands in Norway, consisting of members up to 19 years of age.Aagaard-Nilsen did a workshop with the band and recorded every idea the young players came up with. Many of the ideas from the kids became musical elements in the piece. The conductor, the person who know every member's skills best, made sure that every member got a part they could actually play.Fantasia was premiered at the Norwegian Wind Band Championships for School Bands in June 2019.Fantasia is dedicated to Christian Breistein.

This four-movement piece was designed as a double quartet and, as the title implies, is like a little symphony. The varied sound is the result of harmonics, glissandos, pizzicatos, fingerboard and instrument body tapping, solo and ensemble playing. The musical palette ranges from lyrical to jazz, from pathos to absurdity. 'Sinfonia piccola' was premiered by students of the Wrzburg Music Academy at the First International Double Bass Competition and Workshop in 1978 on the Isle of Man. * This work is part of the "Hummel Bass Ensemble Project".

Oberhessische Bauerntnze - Ottmar Gerter
These four entertaining movements originated in the Thirties. They are an example of popular original compositions of high quality. The work was originally written for small orchestra. Norbert Studnitzky has arranged this series of dances for wind band and at the same time also retained longer chamber music pasages as in the original work.Thus here we have a work for wind band which on the one hand is suitable for developing a musical sense of humour in a playful way and which can also be performed on stage with a group of folk dancers. Ottmar Gerster studied in Frankfurt/main and then taught composition an several colleges of music in Leipzig. his music aims to be accesible to all listeners, even when he uses advanced composition techniques.
