March of the Roughnecks - Ed Huckeby

This concert march heralds back to the early days of the oil boom in the early 1900s. Commissioned by the Glenpool High School Band, commemorating one of the early oil field discoveries (the "Glenn Pool") in Oklahoma, this march recollects the undeniable spirit of the early petroleum pioneers and oil field laborers (called "roughnecks"). The roughnecks worked long, hard hours to drill for the "black crude" which helped to define the Tulsa area as the "oil capitol of the world" for many decades. The spirited and energetic style of the march makes it a "must play" for festival competition or concert performance.

Sands of the Sahara - Larry Neeck

"Sands of the Sahara" paints a breathtaking and dramatic picture of the desolation, intrigue, culture, and storied history of the north Africa landscape. At the start, special percussion effects mimic the sounds of the wind, while a mysterious, faraway flute melody calls to mind an oasis in the desert. Abruptly, a bold theme is introduced by the full band, and leads to the driving rhythms and exotic themes that further propel and sustain the rest of the piece. Concluding, the introduction is briefly restated, and the piece ends in a stunning tour-de-force of color and intensity. Perfect for concert or contest, "Sands of the Sahara" will showcase your entire band with excitement and enthusiasm.

Battle Of The Winds - Duble

If you've been looking for a march challenge, this is it! "Battle of the Winds" is a classic circus "screamer" that wails from start to finish! Low brass and woodwinds get a workout from top to bottom, and the upper voices squeal in "battle" with the lower voices. Everyone will thrill to the gaudy fun of this vintage circus tune. Not for the faint of heart, and while it's a technical workout, it's well worth the effort. One of the most challenging and exciting marches you'll ever hear!

When Sousa became the fourteenth leader of the United States Marine Band he immediately began to add his own works to the bands repertoire, including Pet of the Petticoats March. This delightful and interesting march is in a different form than that of Sousas later marches, having no introduction, as it begins right with the first strain. Originally written for a stage play of the same name, Pet of the Petticoats March provides a musical window into another era in a simpler, less complex America.
