Hymn For The King Of The House Of Silverbow - Barry E. Kopetz
Here is a musical representation of the King journeying to the Land of the Lochrians after being held in captivity for many years in the Land of Aeolia. The final section, Royal Hymn, is a setting of the hymn tune always played when there is an appearance of the King. It had not been performed since his disappearance.

Pet Of The Petticoats - John Philip Sousa
When Sousa became the fourteenth leader of the United States Marine Band he immediately began to add his own works to the bands repertoire, including Pet of the Petticoats March. This delightful and interesting march is in a different form than that of Sousas later marches, having no introduction, as it begins right with the first strain. Originally written for a stage play of the same name, Pet of the Petticoats March provides a musical window into another era in a simpler, less complex America.

Flight Of The Monarch - Larry MacTaggart
A graceful flute solo over an airy background of woodwinds and percussion introduces this colorful and evocative concert work. Contrasting with this lyric opening is the energy and vitality of the main body of material, creating a wonderful depiction of the flight of the monarch butterfly against the backdrop of the beautiful Nebraska countryside. Dedicated to the Papillion Area Concert Band and founding member Gene Brong, this selection is ideal for any contest or concert event.

Echoes of the Morning Trumpet - John Prescott
Echoes of the Morning Trumpet is based on a hymn tune entitled Morning Trumpet by B.F. White that was first published in The Sacred Harp Hymn Book of 1844, a book that was originally printed in shaped notes. The Sacred Harp style of singing is characterized by stark chords with plenty of open fifths and equal participation by all performers who sit and stand in blocks, by section, facing the leader in the middle. This piece features a trumpet solo in the opening, accompanied by the singing of the members of the ensemble. Various treatments of the hymn that highlight the ensemble colors follow before the magnificent close.

By Virtue of the Skies - John Prescott
The composers father, Jack Prescott, was born in 1922, and at the age of 17 became the youngest pilot in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He was somewhat of a daredevil, flying under drawbridges and doing snap rolls down deserted beaches at an altitude of 50 feet. During World War II he joined the Army Air Corps and flew C-47 transport planes from India to China over the Himalayan mountains. He flew 83 missions and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross by President Harry Truman. The heroism of these flights in the face of severe adversity is depicted by the dignified thematic material of the opening. Somewhat dissonant fanfares appear at times, reminding us of the constant dangers that were ever present, before the work concludes in ultimate triumph.

Power Of The Redstone - Amy Webb
"Power of the Redstone is dramatic, exciting, and, most of all, it is fun to play! While I have written the piece in g minor, I have thrown in some diminished 7 chords and added some v chords for extraordinary sounds and novelty that students (and teachers who are tired of hearing I-iv-v-I over and over) are sure to latch on to and enjoy. The ranges on all of the instruments are well within the grade level of the piece, with Trumpet 1 going as high as 4th line D (just a couple of times), flute going no higher than their "C" and Trombone hitting their high E-flat one time. Dynamics are a very crucial part of this piece." - Amy Webb

Entrance Of The Queen - Teo Aparicio-Barberán
This short but brilliant work was written to honour the crowning of the Spanish queen. The elegant march of this piece depicts how the queen arrives slowly. The queen is subsequently crowned and this can be heard in the heavy chords of the brass instruments. The spectacular ending of this work is the proverbial cherry on the cake of this ceremony.

Isles of the Blessed - Bert Appermont
The Celtic poem The Voyage of Bran was the inspiration for this fantasy work by Bert Appermont. The subject of this composition is Febal, who - together with his companions - travels to the "otherworld", also known asthe Island of the Blessed, where he finds nothing but sun and prosperity. The sections, called Isle of Joy, Land of the Women and The Feast intermingle with Song of the Otherworld, which acts as a sort of leitmotif.
