March Prelude: Alnwick Town was commissioned by the Alnwick Playhouse Concert Band (with Ray Thompson as conductor) to celebrate their first 25 years. It opens majestically with answering phrases between various sections of the band, leading to a faster march-like section its main theme echoes the rhythms of the opening material. A bridge passage featuring snippets for saxophones and trumpets leads to a new theme, more legato in nature and repeated after a change of key. The bridge passage returns to herald a restatement of the main theme before the opening material reappears to close the work with a flourish.

Bom Dia (March)
Bom Dia (pronounced "Bom Gee-ahh") means "good morning" in Brazilian Portuguese. This cheerful piece uses the form of the Brazilian choro, with three melodies played in A-B-A-C-A order. An original march, Bom Dia was inspired by Andrew Balent's frequent trips to Brazil. This piece will serve as a welcome change this year for directors seeking a new warm-up march for a contest or festival.

William Paris Chambers (November 1, 1854 - November 13, 1913) was an American composer, cornet soloist and bandmaster who wrote several cornet solos and nearly 90 marches. His most famous marches are Chicago Tribune, The Boys of the Old Brigade, Hostrausers, Northwind and Revelation. The King of Terror March was published by J.W. Pepper in 1882. Its title is thought to be inspired by a carnival or midway attraction. The march is fast and furious, with all the drama and ferocity thats reflected in its name. Although one of his earlier marches, King of Terror contains all of the characteristics of Chambers famous bravura band writing.
