Ides March was commissioned by William Brine in 1990, Bermel's first commission. Brine requested that the work be a march suitable for performance at both a wedding and a funeral. Although originally titled Brine's March, when the composer learned that the march was to receive its premiere on 15 March, he changed the title to Ides March in a umorous nod to the Shakespearean admonition 'Beware the Ides of March'; in his youthful view a sentiment appropriate for either a wedding or a funeral. However, a line from Cole Porter was the inspiration behind the major key to minor key interplay of the work: 'What could be any finer? But how strange the change from major to minor, every time we say goodbye', a line that captured the composer's attempt to write a march that did justice to both the melancholy and triumphant. The Royal Irish Regiment - Larry Clark
The Royal Irish Regiment is an infantry regiment of the British army. This march was therefore meant to be in the style of a classic British style march. The march is set to emulate the passing by of the regiment as it marches in a parade. It starts with a tuneful fife-sounding melody in the flute or piccolo over the sound of bagpipes. The march then developes featuring all of the sections of the band in this colorful regal type march. Use it as a different type of march at your next contest or festival performance.

The march "Honour to the Veterans" was the composers third composition ever. He sent this march to Kjell Martinsen, who was the conductor of The Kings Guards Band in Norway. He liked the march so much that it was included on the CD which was releasedin connection with the bands 150 years anniversary.The march is not very difficult. There is a variety of melody lines in the march that differs from many other marches, especially the piccolo flute solo makes it a little bit special. Themarch is also playable for bands lacking a piccolo flute player, because the melody line in this part of the march is well taken care of.

Giacomo Meyerbeer (1791-1864) was a German opera composer of Jewish origins, who has been described as perhaps the most successful stage composer of the nineteenth century. From 1831 until his death, he remained a dominating figure in the world of opera. His contemporary Hector Berlioz summed up his public career claiming that he 'has not only the luck of being talented, but the talent to be lucky'. His works made him the most frequently performed composer at the world's leading opera houses in the nineteenth century. Giacomo Meyerbeer composed his opera Le Prophte in 1849. In this opera a coronation is preceded by a splendid march. Although the opera itself is rarely performed, the Coronation March has gained a place in the concert repertoire.Franco Cesarini's arrangement for concert band of the Coronation March stands out for its skillful instrumentation which underlines the powerful sounds of this classic concert march.
