The MGB March was commissioned in 2004 by the Swiss railway corporation "Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn" and first performed by the Belalp Concert Band on the occasion of a march music festival. A journey on the Swiss railway can take you through some of the worlds most beautiful scenery with one of the most spectacular journeys being through the Swiss Alps between Zermatt to Disentis and Andermatt to G?schenen. On this journey of less than 100 miles you climb over 3300 meters, run through 33 tunnels, cross 126 bridges and pass through 47 stations en route. Colonial March is a stately British style march for beginning bands. George Washington served in the British colonial army prior to the American Revolution when he became the colonies' Commander-in-Chief and later the first President of the new nation. Two melodies, Yankee Doodle and America (My Country 'Tis of Thee or God Save the King) were known to both the British and American armies and are incorporated in this precious march for the youngest of students.

Originally titled Governor Bradford March, it was written for orchestra in 1948. 50 years later (1998) Tom Everett, director of the Harvard University Band, discovered Mr. Anderson's manuscript for band among some other old band arrangements! This band version was performed for the first time in 1999 and the recording was used by National Public Radio. This striking yet very playable cut-time march is an excellent addition to the repertoire of classic American marches.

The Wand of Youth suites were written in 1869 when Elgar was only twelve years old, music written for a play and acted by the Elgar children for a private family theatrical production. He noted the tunes down in a sketchbook and in 1907, forty years later, he rearranged with only minor changes and orchestrated them as the two suites titled The Wand of Youth, Suite Nos. 1 and 2. Although the Wand of Youth Suites date from Elgar's mature years, he insisted on calling it Opus 1, because he wrote these pieces originally for piano many years earlier. The March is the first movement of The Wand of Youth, Suite No. 2. The arranger has presented this movement as an example of an excellent concert opener or warm-up march for a festival or contest performance because of its delicacy, yet determination.

In the course of the two centuries following the death of Henry Purcell in 1695, no British composer of any statue was apparent. Consequently, the break-through of Edward Elgar (1857-1934) as an internationally known and respected composer at the end of the last century, was of considerable importance. As a composer Elgar was largely self-taught and he looked towards the continent for his inspiration. He is without doubt on par with his contemporaries such as the somewhat younger Richard Strauss. The Belgian composer Jan Van der Roost is a genuine admirer of Elgar's music and on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the composer's death in 1984 he composed the "Ceremonial March". Van der Roost was inspired by the most famous and frequently played works from Elgar's catalogue of works, the characteristic "Pomp and Circumstances" marches, and decided to add his own, sixth march to the existing collection.Duration: 5:30
