Johan de Meij's first symphony The Lord of the Rings is based on the trilogy of that name by J.R.R. Tolkien. This book has fascinated many millions of readers since its publication in 1955. The Dutch composer Harrie Janssen composed "Adventures of the Beaume" to mark the 50th anniversary of his parents wedding. The composer of the march his memories of the family home, and in particular the occupation of his parents. The Janssen family earned a living as inland carriers. After a much-publicized separation of the two musical giants, Lanner was appointed to the coveted post of Musik-Direktor of the Redoutensale in the Habsburg Imperial Palace. Lanners ballet was written in September of 1841; this superb Bourgeois edition brings the work to the wind ensemble repertoire. It is an outstanding example of the Austrian march genre.
