The origin of the song Piet Swerts arranged for concert band in Russian Gipsy Song probably lies with Russian gypsies, who know it under the title Dorogoj Dlinnojn and who ardently consider it their mental property.The melody of this Russian folk song is better known under the title Those Were the Days My Friend, the song that singer Mary Hopkins made famous in 1968. Within a year after she had issued this song, well over five million records of it had been sold. There are also versions in French (Les temps des fleurs), Spaans (Qu tiempo tan feliz), Italian (Quelli erano giorni), and German (An jenem Tag) of this song full of nostalgia about the "good old days."

The Italian film music composer Piero Umiliani originally composed Mah Na Mah Na in 1968 for the soundtrack of the Swedish movie Sweden - Heaven or Hell. However the piece only became a hit in the 1970s, when Jim Henson used the catchy melody in his children's TV series The Muppet Show and Sesame Street. Stefan Schwalgin has produced this excellent version to give baritone saxophonists, who sometimes feel left out by the band's repertoire, a platform for their soloistic development. Washington Grays (CB) - Claudio S. Grafulla - Bert Van Thienen
Washington Grays is an American march composed by Claudio S. Grafulla in 1861. Written for the 8th Regiment, New York State Militia based at the Kingsbridge Armory. The "grays" in the title refers to the color of the regimental uniforms. There are elements of the Italian and German march in Washington Grays, with running sixteenth notes and responding bass voices creating a wonderful counterpoint. A crowd pleaser!

Capriccio Italien was based on Italian folk songs and was composed by Tchaikovsky in 1880. The work was inspired by his trip to Rome.
