Happy Bubbles - Koen Pletinckx
Happy Bubbles is a light playful piece in bright spirits, set to a swinging Dixieland style that unmistakably reminds you of the cheering times of the roaring Twenties. Happy Bubbles was composed in such a way to be playable for every ensemble, without sounding too simplistic or vulgar. It serves its purpose well if it comes to lightening up a concert, so your audience can "go back in time" and enjoy a performance in a well known catching traditional jazz style.

£202.99Selections from Kiki's Delivery Service - Joe Hisaishi
Famous musicologist Yuji Numano identified an interesting relationship between classical and film music. Film music is like a second child of 19th century classical music (the first child being 20th century modern music). Although they have a parent-child relationship, there are still major differences."The basic `form' is different. In the history of classical music art forms, there is a continuing dispute on how to convey a story only through music. On the other hand, as a part of motion pictures, film music at times has difficulty being an autonomous art form separate from the visual media. Indeed, film scores alone can lack musical substance. In the sense of acoustical effectiveness, film scoring has absorbed the total aspect of modern and classical music. Yet, there is still a huge distinction from classical music regarding recognizing film music as a standard art form."This Selections from "KIKI'S Delivery Service" is my seventh arrangement of Joe Hisaishi's works. They are either in medley or suite styles. It might be an exaggeration, however, to cite back to Mr. Numano, I have attempted to compensate for the lack of substance in film music by creating an art form more like classical music. Medley should not be about cherry-picking the best bits. I prefer that performers consider the significance of the work's overall structure. It has been 20 years since the premier of the feature animation film "KIKI'S Delivery Service" based on Eiko Kadono's literature for children. Numerous romantic melodies by Joe Hisaishi are used for many occasions and are still very popular. In this arrangement, I have made a medley from the following scenes:1. A Town with an Ocean View2. Starting the Job3. Heartbroken Kiki4. A Gust5. DeparturePlease note that the 4th scene A Gust comes from the "image album" prior to the soundtrack production and is not used in the actual movie.(Kazuhiro Morita, 2008)

£134.99Hunting Tower - Ottorino Respighi
Not much is known about the origin of Huntingtower, except for the fact that this ballad was composed in 1931 by the Italian composer Ottorino Respighi (1879-1936), commissioned by Edwin Franko Goldman and the American Bandmaster Association, and was premiered on 17 April 1932 at a concert in memory of John Philip Sousa in Washington D.C. It is not even certain whether Respighi arranged the work himself, or left this to someone else. Huntingtower is the name of a castle in Scotland, where Respighi spent some time. It is possible that this ballad contains his musical impressions of his stay there. The orchestration on this CD, made by Franco Cesarini in 1987, is an adaptation ofthe work to the demands of the contemporary concert band.

£149.99Suite Provenale - Jan Van der Roost
This 4-movement suite is based on authentic folktunes from the beautiful southern province in France: the "Provence". The composer used an harmonic language respecting the popular characteristics, but on the other hand also contains some "spicy" notes (... just like the wellknown "Provenal sauce"! ...). The instrumentation is very colourful, paying a lot of attention to the different timbres of both brass and wood winds as well as to the percussion section.Every movement has its own character: "Un Ange a fa la crido" (= An angel brought the creed / credo) is like a bourre, "Adam e sa Coumpagnou" (= Adam and his companion) is an old love song, "Lou Fusti" (= the carpenter)a fast dance and finally "Lis Escoubo" (= a whistle tune / popular ballad) is a farandole. In the latter, the old tradition of folk musicians who play a whistle with one hand and a drum with the other hand, is clearly represented during the first presentations of the one and only theme)Although this piece is not too demanding, a well balanced band is necessary to perform it successfully. Thanks to the contrasts and the varying colours, it keeps on holding the attention.

£149.99St. Martin's Suite - Jan Van der Roost
This suite was composed by Jan Van der Roost on the occasion of the 110th anniversary of the 'Koninklijke Sint Martinusfanfare' (Royal Saint Martinus Fanfare Band) from Halle (Belgium). The composer was required to create a suite in three movements based on three images associated with the 'Sint Martinusfanfare' from the small town of Halle in the province of Brabant. The first movement (Andante Pomposo) describes Martin, a soldier in the Roman army. In Andante Moderato we see the image of Martin, who become a Christian and chooses to devote his life to God. In this movement, the composer was inspired by the Brabantine gothic art of the Sint Martinus Basilica in Halle. Thecontrast between the dark Basilica and the statue of Our Lady between the soaring pillars will vividly come to life for audiences of this descriptive piece. The final movement, Allegro Molto Vivace', could have been an image for a frivolous peasant in the Halle carnival. In a triptych about St. Martin it is more fitting to refer to it as an apotheosis, the crown on the pastoral work of Martin, Bishop of Tours, Patron Saint of the Fanfare Band and the Basilica of Halle.
